I egg myself and others onward and I caution myself and others to tread carefully. I am not the devil and I'm not an angel.
The devil on the left shoulder does more than egg people on. He urges us to do evil deeds. He might caution us to be discreet about what we do, least we might be found out and then there would be an end to his manipulation.
And the angel on the right shoulder, urges us to do the right thing.

it depends what it was if it was something mean or cruel then i'd be the angel if it was something little like a small glass of wine then i'd be the devil well i wouldn't really care about if sum1 wud wanna drink a little but i'm just saying if i had to choose

i would encourage someone to do something but saying that makes me the devil is just wrong. besides, if your the angel, your restricting them from what they want to do. and people just don't work like that. they have to realize it themselves before they would actually follow the advice.
