Hi, I am planning a getaway for my boyfriend and I's 3 year anniversary. We would be planning to go to Boston in the first week of July this year.

What I wanted to know, (either from people who have visited or live in the area) all the insider details. How is the weather the time of year? Where should we visit?

Also, I am planning on booking our hotel as the Hyatt Regency that is in Downtown Boston. Any personal reviews?

Thanks in advance, and the more details the better!!!!!

oh, P.S. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Ooh, I almost forgot. About how much spending money do you think I need for 5 days there, just the 2 of us?

I have lived in the Boston area my entire life (just turned 35) and have always wanted to take the DUCK TOUR (you board at the Prudential Center) since its inception. Its an amphibious vehicle that takes you on a ground tour of Boston and its sights. THEN, the vehicle turns water friendly as you you go on the Charles and see the city by BOAT all in the same vehicle. Very Cool!

I also recommend the Top of the Hub for dinner. The top of the Prudential Buidling is a rotating restaurant that has impeccable ambiance and scrumptious food all while spinning around and taking in the Boston Skyline.

The Freedom Trail is also a good walk that takes you through all the historical bits and pieces of the city. Good on a nice sunny day.

For dinner, I recommend MOTHER ANNA'S on Hanover St, in the North End. Or for authentic Mexican CASA ROMERO on Gloucester St in the alley way (sounds sketchy because of the alley way, but don't let that fool you). Both restaurants boast authentic cuisine and romantic ambiance.

There is always the swan boats at the Public Garden. Also a very nice place to stroll and take in the city - the topiaries are amazing as well as the flower beds planted seasonly.

Have a great time in Boston! And Happy Anniversary1

Probably the weather will be in the high 70s-low 80s (although it could be hotter if there's a heat wave). If you can get tickets to a Red Sox game, that would be worth it for sure. Tickets are hard to get though and near impossible if they're playing the Yankees. Walk the Freedom Trail - all the historic sites are along it and it's a really interesting walk (the current State House, several churches and cemeteries, the Old State House, Old South Meeting House, Paul Revere's house and Bunker Hill). That's probably most of a full day and you can (and should) have dinner in the North End, which is historically the Italian neighborhood. All the restaurants there are good but my personal favorite is Giacomo's. Most importantly, eat dessert at Mike's Pastry. Actually, if you do nothing else in Boston, go to Mike's Pastry. (Literally.... I'm not kidding.... go to Mike's Pastry! It's worth it). Also the art museums - the Museum of Fine Arts and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum - are very close to each other, and if you're into art museums you should go to at least one of those (or both). Harvard Square and Harvard Yard is always a good place to go as well... good shopping too. And just walk around some of the neighborhoods.... if you have an extra few hours walk around Brookline or Beacon Hill, or go down Newbury Street (expensive art galleries and upscale stores and coffeeshops - good for window shopping and people watching).

Unfortunately Boston is pretty expensive. Regarding the downtown Hyatt Regency: I've never stayed there before, but my guess is that it's probably a standard Hyatt: Charmless but comfortable and it probably has a pool or jacuzzi or gym at least. It's in a decent location (a couple blocks from the subway) but not the best location in the city, in my opinion. So I would stay there only if you can get a really good deal. For probably the same price though, and if you want a chain hotel in the same category, you can stay at the Marriott or Sheraton hotels in Copley Square (both of which i HAVE stayed at, for business)... and it's in a better location in my opinion.

Oh... happy new year!

Oh, you're going for the 4th of July, that's great! I was here for the first time EVER over the 4th last year (I moved here this past May) and I had such a good time. There is a big outside celebration where the Boston POPS play. Last year Aerosmith performed with them, it was a great show. Also check out the Sox schedule and see if you can score some tickets.

Another thing that you may want to try is to visit the Top of the Hub or the Skywalk - both are on the top of the Prudential Center. I have visitors in all the time and they all love the city view! :)

You will have a blast!

In July it'll probably be pretty hot! But that's the best time, in my opinion. You won't have to worry about packing heavy clothes, or lots of rain or anything. . . .Go see the Red Sox if you can! You can tour Fenway Park every afternoon, if you don't get a chance to see the game. Go eat some Italian food in the North End! (Strega is one of my favorite places.) Visit some historical sites, like Paul Revere House, the Freedom Trail, etc. Then make sure you go to the top of the John Hancock Building for a great view of the entire city. You can basically walk anywhere in the city, and have a great time, so I think you'll love it.

Go to Fenway and take in a game at the GREATEST stadium. The weather is very nice and warm in July. Bring a lot of spending cash, Boston is pricey, but worth every cent!

PS. Have a great time!

In July it is usually in the 70's, not too hot, not too cold. Boston is a beautiful place it has the famous North End for all your Italian craving and it has many nice shops on Newbury Street and in Fanuiel Hall. Boston is very pricey though.
