You don't say how old she is; if she's still in her teens it could be that her cycles haven't settled down into a regular routine yet, and possibly once they do, the pain will be less. I would have her see a doctor, since it's possible that she may be able to go on a low-dose BC pill to help control her cramps and regulate her cycles. My sister-in-law was in terrible pain every month during her teens and went on the pill, which helped a lot. I had a few really bad periods in my teens also, and my cycle seemed to settle down by itself as I got older. Every woman is different.
In the meantime, ibuprofen along with the heat may help; also try the heating pad on her lower back. Even if it feels like the cramps are in her abdomen, it may be that they're really originating in her back. She may also need a prescription for the pain. Good luck to both of you, you sound like a good guy for a girl to have around.

she should try taking 2 diff. pain killers things, u know, alternating every 3 hours. here's a time chart example:
let's say she takes advil at 8:00 am
8:00 am: 2 advil
3 hours later
11:00 am: 2 tylenol
3 hours later
2:00 pm: 2 advil
3 hours later
5:00 pm: 2 tylenol
3 hours later
8:00 pm: 2 advil
and so on till she goes 2 bed. thats what I do and it helps a TON. also, she should make sure 2 get enough iron (in cream of wheat, I think) since u lose a lot during ur period. the hotwater bottle should help, and just laying down. actually, I think she might want 2 walk around a little to keep her muscles from getting cold and clenching up. it's so nice of u 2 want 2 help ur gf. hope i could help!

Hot packs and Midol are a good start, that is all it takes for most women. Staying healthy and exercising a lot can help too - cycling, abdominal crunches, and orgasms help stretch and relieve the muscles in that area. She should watch what she eats at this time, too - avoid caffiene, fatty/greasy foods, and chocolate (although chocolate releases endorphins to help with the mood swings, so it's both good and bad).
If she's in real serious pain, she should see a doctor and ask about endomitrosis (not sure of spelling, usually nicknamed endo). It's a painful condition that effects some women.
You're being very good and sweet to her, good for you! Continue with the sympathy.

What a nice way to take care of her. Sorry she hurts so bad. Gentle exercise like walking is one of the things that can help cramps. Getting up and moving around at least is a distraction. Put on a funny movie. Laughter should help too.
