I'm not sure how it got this way. . . maybe driven with air on over a dirt road possibly. Everytime I use my defrost it's an extremely stale odor I'd love to get rid of. . . I had this happen in another car a long time ago and it never went away. I just got this car this year and plan on keeping it a while. Suggestions would be nice. Thanks!

Spray some lysol or other bacteria killer. Bacteria or mold can grow in there and cause odor. NAPA sells some product specificlly for this too.

Turn on system high and turn on the recirc. Spray where the air is going into the unit.

Because of the wide fluctuations in temperature and humidity, Acs` are a great breading ground for molds.A good disifectant sprayed in all the vents; and if you can; look under the dash on the pass. side and by removing some pannels by the htr. assembly see if you spot the htr core and\or the evap. and spray them well. Not only will the smell be gone. But more important is the health risk from molds.

Have to take the fan motor cover or intake off and clean out the housing. There has probably gotten some moisture in there and you have some mildew growing. You might be able to pop out the vent grates on the dash and run a rod with a rag on it to clean some up.

After using the A/C, I will turn the A/C off and just leave the blower on high (and drive for a couple miles)...This dries out the system and eliminates the odor.

get some BG Frigi-Fresh and spray it in the cowel of the car (the vents right below the windshield wipers) and let the AC run full blast for a bit.

Take it to a detail shop. They will get it out for sure.
