The same reason that some Asians have an American accent. They were born and/or raised in the country that they have an accent from.
My friend adopted a child from China and named her Isabella. Does that sound like a Chinese name? Do you think she will speak Chinese or have a Chinese accent when she grows up? Think about it...

British only has one "T" in it.
Your accent, or lack of accent, shows your education. If you learned English from the English, that's the English you'd speak. If the Asian you met at the mall grew up in Georgia, you'd hear a different accent. There's a comedian named Henry Knox from Tennessee. I think he's Korean, but he sounds like Jeff Foxworthy. It's the English he learned.

Umm, there are people of Asian descent that were born and raised in Britain. Same reason Asians who are American have no accent or have an accent from their area. Wait till you meet an Asian from Texas, now that will throw you off a little.

How you speak English depends on who you learn it from. If she learned it from a British speaker or through a British-oriented program, then she'll sound British.
I heard a speaker once who worked at a mission school somewhere in Africa. The English teacher there was from East Tennessee...so these kids in the middle of Africa had an outrageous Southern accent when they spoke English.
Awesome.

..because she was raised in England. Just like Asian Americans, many have an American accent. It's not like she has to neccessarily have a Chinese or Japanese or Korean ot Vietnamese accent just because she's of Asian origin.

If she is from England, that was probably why she had a British accent. However, if you know she lived in Asia for a long while, she probably lived in India, which used to be a British colony and still has British roots.
