You may need to enable the wireless adapter in the BIOS. Check your laptop manual to see how to enter the BIOS (sometimes labeled as setup) when you power on the system it will tell you what key to press to enter setup.

A wireless adapter communicates with the wireless router. But my experience is that the wireless router needs to be connected with one PC and then the 2nd PC, in your case the laptop, can access the Internet etc. through the other PC and its wireless router.

If I'm wrong, then someone please correct me.

I would go back to the store and discuss your problem/need with someone at the store.

Eva - yes, you're wrong unfortunately. The point of a wireless router is that you can connect to it from your laptop without having to have any other computers on.

on your lap top you should have a 'fn' button maybe i n blue and a icon in the same colour of what looks like the sun you need to hold them down together and that should switch on the wireless on your laptop... if you give the make and model number i'd we able to help you more specifically...

the router needs to be connected to your phone line, then you need to go through the set up details... give the model number and i'll see if i can help...

you need to connect to the SSID the router is broadcasting (belkin, maybe?) if the wireless doesn't work at all, maybe you need to enable it or install a driver. ask your pc manufacturer if you still can't get it.

What type of laptop do you have. On a toshiba there is a switch on the front of computer and then they have their own software that you need to enable. Then it still have to be configured. You can use windows zero point software (i think this is what it is called). Check it out online.
