Is it even possible to mount a RWD engine in FWD car? I know the 93-97 corolla model has a larger than average engine compartment for a japanese car.

I want to know what issues and possible solutions. Transmission would be an issue. I would expect to keep it as a daily so I'd want to keep it automatic just because of traffic. I want to keep the car looking stock. Can anyone give me a few words of advice besides telling me not to do it.

I like ebecorns answer about the Toronado drivetrain. If you want to make the car RWD though you will have to do major mods to the floor board to make a tranny tunnel, probably require a custom driveshaft and rear end.

Not only is it possible (I shoved a 305 and a THM-700 into an MGB); I would encourage you to do it. Keep hot-rodding alive.

Sure. Just drop 'er in.

Seriously, if you are thinking this would be cheap because you need an engine and you already have a 350, think again. Jay Leno spent upwards of 150k converting a FWD Olds Toronado to an LT-1 from a Corvette. You're talking serious re-engineering, from suspension up.

If you are a serious mechanic and a journeyman welder, you can make the rear tires smoke on a corrola. It'll just take you a few months.

With enough time and effort... anything is possible.

First you have to decide... do you want to keep it front wheel drive or convert it to rear wheel drive?

RWD would be the easiest to convert. The necessary tranny and drive line is readily available. Most of your parts can be taken from a used pickup truck.

FWD would be more of a challenge. Ideally, search for a old FWD small block Cadillac.

Their are too many things to write about... just say... nothing would be stock in the Corolla. Every aspect of the build would be one-off.

It is possible but it wouldn't be easy.

I am suprised nobody mentioned this but there are a bunch of fiero's running around with 350 chevs in them. They are RWD but still setup like a FWD car because the engine is in the back. v8archie.com is one vendor that does conversions on the fiero. Maybe you could get a donor fiero trans and make it work.

It's doable, but would likely as not be a pig to drive. There's a few guys who've put the Rover 3.5 (Ex-Buick 215) into original Minis as FWD, and if you can fix a V8 in there, you can fit one in anything.

If you really want a V8 in your Corolla, converting it to RWD would be far more sensible. If you want to make it fast and FWD, get a Celica turbo engine or similar in it.

Anything is possible. and they probably have a kit on the market to adapt your car to that engine. I've seen a 350 engine put in a Miata. A Miata is already rear wheel drive but can you picture it?
And I've seen a Blown 350 in a Honda CRX at the drag strip.

You could find an Olds Toronado drivetrain and shoehorn it in. Or you could build a custom tube chassis for RWD and set the corolla body down on it. Or find a small framed RWD like a chevy s-10 and set your corolla on it.
