I think that someone who steals from me should have his home burned to the ground and depending on how much I like his family they should all be killed. I truly think that a person who brings me harm should have his entire bloodline destroyed. I realize this is not in line with society but there has to be some evolutionary reason why I feel this way. Is this an ok way to see things?

Fantasies of outrageous revenge, the utter devastation of one's enemies, are pretty normal--as long as they remain merely fantasies. I believe it's a fairly healthy, instinctual drive related to our own survival that we at some level feel compelled to harshly, swiftly, and brutally vanquish those that threaten or in fact harm us in any way, even when the slight is just that--slight.

What is also healthy--in fact, what is imperative--is that we carefully consider each instance and weigh the situation before acting, always bearing in mind that inhibition is the basis of human freedom. Restraint is more often the wise path; let the fantasy indulge baser instincts, but remain civilized where appropriate, lest you wind up in jail, maimed, dead, or otherwise besmirched as some kind of sadistic whack-job.

In some cases, however, total smackdown and scorched earth is thoroughly warranted and called for and necessary: Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and now Mecca and Medina and Tehran and Damascus and Riyadh and probably the entire "Sunni Triangle" must be laid to waste with multiple nuclear warheads immediately.
