They might be a little TOO young fory you, but I'll throw them at you anyway: Madeleine L'Engle's "A Wrinkle in Time" and "The White Mountains" by John Christopher. They're both classics that everyone should read once in their youth. If you're looking for something targeted at a little older audience, I can wholeheartedly recommend Isaac Asimov's "The Naked Sun", Peter Hamilton's "Neutronium Alchemist" series, or Neal Stephenson's "Snow Crash" and "Diamond Age". Robert Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" and "The Cat Who Walks Through Walls" are also fantastic, but (like all Heinlein stuff) they have racy bits that might upset your parents.

Anything you can understand and enjoy reading is good. Just because you are a young adult you don't have to read just young adult stuff. There are tons of books out there for people of all ages that are great. Check out HP(basically children's books, but read by more adults than children). Try these authors and see what you think. John Ringo, Eric Flint, Mercedes Lackey, Ursula K. LeGuin, David Weber, David Drake, Trudi Canavan, Andre Norton, Frederick Pohl, Heinlein, Asimov(might be too much), Dennis McKiernan, Leo Frankowski, even Edgar Rice Burroughs.

A really great sci fi story is "Fadeout" by Patrick Tilley. The ISBN number is 0 7515 0085 2. It may be out of print now but you should be able to pick up a second hand copy from EBay or a book store. It's a fascinating story that's just a little scary but really make you think. I think you may enjoy it.

If you are interested in Star Wars, there are some novels aimed directly toward young adult readers. The series' include the Junior Jedi Knights and the Young Jedi Knights.

If you are interested in branching out into fantasy, I would strongly recommend Tamora Pierce and Mercedes Lackey.

Try going to your local public library and looking in the yound adults section for Sci Fi. You will see authors such as Robert Heinlein and many others who have written hundreds of young reader style books. They are fun to read, have good plots and there are many trilogies.

The Abhorsen Trilogy via Garth Nix has lady substantial characters - Sabriel (sabriel), Lirael (lirael) and Abhorsen (lirael.) and sure, i admire them. Anne McCaffrey as many human beings have written - although The Dragonsong trilogy with Menolly (Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, Dragondrums) are her basically books formally for youthful adults. an incredible e book that basically have been given reprinted is "Enchantress from the celebs" via Sylvia Engdahl. that's the main sci-fi of the bunch (spaceships, a famous individual trek like first touch, and so on.) the different ones mentioned tend extra in direction of fantasy (seems to be like the extra lady-friendly area of the kind) although they are able to all be seen sci-fi in a feeling and all have sci-fi components.

I love Artemis Fowl. I don't know if it's categorized as scifi, but close enough.
