Figures released today show that in 2002 70,000 people were attacked by dogs. Half in their own homes, half in public places. Isnt it time to muzzle or put down???

DOGS ARE ANIMALS AND EVEN THE TAMEST ANIMAL CAN TURN BAD---LOOK AT US HUMANS FOR PROOF OF THAT.

In my opinion, no, it is not.In response to dog biting incidents, laws are being passed to ban certain breeds of dog. This in itself is ridiculous! Radio and talk show hosts sensationalize dog bite incidents and pressure prosecutors to put every such dog owner in jail, assuming that it must be the fault of either the dog or the owner. I would like to see a scientific study showing what the precipitating causes are for most dog biting incidents. It can’t be that all of these cases were because the dog was crazy or just made mean, or because of negligence on the part of the owners. How many of these cases were justified bites, when the dog was provoked to the point where it felt it had to fight back? How many were the result of negligence on the part of the person that was bitten? How many were accidents, where the dog escaped an enclosure that a reasonable person should have expected to be escape proof? I personally am not quite ready to put on the muzzle or say that dogs are not mans best friend!

Most dog breeds can be trusted when well trained and with responsible owners. I used to have a massive, long haired, black alsation which was a working dog. Highly intelligent and trained to perfection. Used to frighten people given his size but they soon recognised he was OK.
Badly treated and badly trained dogs can be made into viscious animals and it is the owners who turn them this way. Its usually down to the mind-set of the owner. I'm sure you have seen the people who usually own Pit Bull type dogs!!! and, although I feel sorry for thes dogs, they tend to be the type of dog which "snaps" easily and attacks for no reason. I see no place for them in public and these breeds should be outlawed.

To all of you who say Pitt Bulls are Visious heres what I say.

Check the statistics of pitt bull to human bites in the USA from properly bred, properly trained dogs, Not Dogs who have been trained to attack anyone from Gangsters and Rednecks.

You will be very surprised.

Pure Bred Pitt Bulls are not availible in UK and any Pitt bull type dog is likely to have been bred(somewhere along the line with visicious, mentally handicapped dogs) that have been badly treaten by irresponsible owners.

So before you all start calling for the destruction of Pitt Bulls, get your facts and stats right before you make your call.

Bred to kill psychotic (and in most cases driven out of their minds by their living conditions dogs are not anyones best friend. Most breeds are fine and make excellent family companions. We just need to get rid of the ones that have been born to be vicious, these are man made anyway and not a natural breed.

i know what you mean, feel so sorry for that poor girls family. why do people keep these kind of dogs. but generally i think dogs are still a mans friend, it is just the owner, but then again even humans can turn. never trust a dog with a child, even if the dog seems protective of it.

Never. You been watching to much news about the little girl, I cried at that but you cant tar all dogs with the same brush because of one rogue dog. It was brought up in the wrong way, I blame the owner not the dog. I have a rotty who weighs eleven and half stone and he is fantastic with kids, they ride on his back and lay down with him. plz dont blame my dog for a stupid owner that looked after his dog in the wrong way.

People just need to stop treating dogs like humans. Dogs have good days and bad days like anyone else but they are not able to tell us. People who show too much trust in dogs that are around children are idiots, pure and simple.

The dog owners need to be held responsible, not the dogs. Besides, I'm more worried about my fellow human beings. We kill each other every day. And WE'RE supposed to be the higher form of intelligence!

It's really sad what happened. The human race must stop thinking that we can control everthing. Animals have just as much right to be here as do we. If we take it upon ourself to domesticate every living thing then we must except responsibility.
The human race is the worse thing to happen to this planet.

With that said, it really is awful what happened to that girl and my thoughts are with her. I to have a 5 yr old daughter

The problem isnt the dogs it's us. Why we believe that we can train or breed all animals to be what we want them to be is silly. These are still animals with a wild nature and yes they can be your best friend but we must remember what thay are and that isnt human!!!!
