If the sound is a vibrating sound... chances are the baffle inside the muffler broke. A exhaust sound can usually be duplicated with the vehicle not moving, just hit the gas a few times.
If this is a sound only occurring while in motion... it can be many things from a bad tire (internal belt shifted), wheel bearing failure, etc

Lock Smith might not look like he knew what he was talking about but from what you've described he sounds like he's on the money. The wheel bearing are probably bad, Or a balancing weight came off one of your drums or rotors. But that would feel more like a tire out of balance than what you described.

It could really be a lot of things, how about the year make and model of the car, can you pin point the area the noise is coming from?Describe the noise, can you compare it to anything you are familiar with? How about when you are braking or turning?

There is a leak in the exhaust system. Check it out with the garage. I had the same problem before.

broken, unfastened, or wiped out motor mounts letting the engine tilt and rub on something once you supply it gasoline. in uncomplicated terms a wager i do no longer understand what you rigidity. i'm going to wager it is front wheel rigidity. according to probability a minivan?
