Well, as far as the alien abduction phenomenon itself, I don't think it's much different than people seeing flaming chariots or angels or dragons or whatever.
The idea of visitors from another realm (the heavens, the middle of the earth, the spirit plane, whatever) has been a common theme throughout history and aliens are the latest incarnation. As people get more technologically advanced, the visitors start showing up in outrageous machines that can swoop and dart and probe your butthole. People don't see "gods"...they see "aliens" that can read their minds and influence their thoughts. But doesn't God know your heart and dwell within you, according to lots of religions?
It's just a sign of the times and the location. Flying chariots are now flying saucers. Folktales change to conform to the times. I mean, really, wouldn't it be a lot stranger if somebody saw a flying *chariot* these days? When we have space ships and Mars rovers...flying saucers and ET-types just make more sense.

Sorry. This is the country where the majority of the people believe they live in the greatest nation on earth and where the 'Church' of Scientology was founded? Where an actor can become President and they have gun 'laws' that say just about anyone can have one?
I think alien abduction is the least of their problems!

Except, a high proportion of US citizens *don't* believe they have been abducted by aliens. Asking that is like asking, "Why is it pigs keep flying around?" They don't.

It's strange that there are no reports of alien abductions before the 1930's or so ! I blame the media, films and mass hysteria ! Still...there could be something out there...but who is going to believe them anyway ?
Before HG Wells..people used to see pixies and fairies and now and again, just for a change, a nasty witch or the Devil himself !
Think of the " Salem " witch trials, Americans then thought that everyone was a witch ! Bless them, they go with the flow !

We cannot answer this in a tangible scientific manner. It is probable that in an age of uncertainty, that belief in the supernatural increases. If we look at the list of belief system icons, we discover that NOT one shred of museum grade scientific PROOF has EVER been produced ? The list of unproven belief icons will include , Angels, Fairies, Ghosts, UFO`s. Bigfoot, Yeti, Loch Ness monster, visions of Mary, Jesus, Aliens, Vampires , Werewolves, and many other pieces of nonsense. Why with all this supernatural activity can no evidence be found ? Is it as believers always say, "science/government/secret agents destroy/hide the evidence", or is it as psychologists suggest, "it does not exist outside of the mind" ? I am convinced that none of these supernatural phenomena can ever occur to a rational, scientific mind, but to certain others of a different social, educational, and conditioned mind, all these things are simply belief/support systems, little different to any form of religious conditioning.

I saw a large silver saucer shaped craft above this building 32 years ago.just hovering there. this was highway 85 with many vehicles going by. I had a thought when I saw it. Just Go On Down The Road. Its Nothing. But I knew that wasn't MY thought. I pulled over and looked at it.for a while. a hundred cars went by. there were people in th e parking lot. and it was RIGHT THERE>but no one seemed to notice.I was in a hurry to go to a meeting so I went on. later I told someone at work about seeing it and he said his brother saw it. and in the Greenville S.C., newspaper there was an article about how a trucker was followed on highway 85 from Greenville to spartanburg and back by a silver saucer shaped craft one day.why do people report being abducted.? its because they were abducted I would assume.I believe they messed with our DNA some 1000s of years ago. which made us become what people believe to be civilized.how come were like animals for millions of years then all of a sudden in our history we get smart.invent things. form towns and citys.are we just breeders for them so they will have somewhat entelligent slaves?there not here to just sight see.they have a reason. to be here.what would be there reason?whats the most logical reason why they mixed there dna in us.to make us smarter.we were not smart enough back then to be there slaves.its only logical to assume this is why there here.many children get missing every year.they take a human child to there planet. and then there brought up to be there servents.what will they do. ? they will be there servents. or there workers in there manufactoring plants.

Don't you think it's interesting that reports of UFO sightings and abductions in the States have gone down since 9/11? I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Whats to say that some of them haven't?
I do actually believe in alien encounters/abductions, but I still think that most ufo sightings can be mistaken....for example, lights in the sky - flocks of birds, lenticular clouds etc.
I also think some people perhaps are susceptible to reading something and then dreaming about it and possibly believe they've been abducted.
Whilst they can't prove it, we can't disprove it! I think its totally ignorant of us to class them as 'nutters' it may well be that they are right and know things most people don't.

Because 99.9% of them are on drugs so it no surprise that their minds are so warped they believe they have been abducted by something that does not exist, this is the same as their continued believe in the lies in the novel the bible.
