I have found that I am much smarter when I stop interfering with my sub conscious. When I let answers flow from me instead of trying to answer with my so called intellect, I am usually right. It seems that intelligence has less to do with me and more to do with my subconscious. Thoughts?

To Monc. Is it not possible that autistics are more in touch with thier supreme selves since they are not distracted by external factors as easily?

That's an interesting contention. It's certainly possible that if you are a clear channel for your creative self, then you would be quicker to answer questions in an IQ test.

I always thought that IQ as a concept is a little overrated as it has a lot to do with how you take tests.

I don't think IQ is really an especially meaningful measure of intelligence, as it has as much or more to do with how well someone takes tests (or how much experience they have with that test type) than who intelligent they actually are.

I would think that it is just as likely that having a high IQ (if it genuinely means the person has high intelligence) would help a person achieve a higher level of self-realization, as the ability to think more deeply, more clearly, and to compare and contrast more issues at once would play an important role in analyzing ones own mind and motives.

Also, the specifics you give about the unconscious having the right answers is not very clear. Generally, when an activity (or a piece of knowledge) is well-learned and well-rehearsed, it is advantageous to just go with our instinct and to suppress our intellect, allowing our subconscious to dominate. However, when faced with a novel situation, or a complex one, that we have not experienced before, there is little reason to believe that our subconscious will be well-equiped to handle the situation; instead, novel situations are when are intellects can shine, and should be used to analyze new information and attempt to place it within the context of what we already know.

I an not going to get into the IQ debate, as I have seen many answers here that are ignorantly formed by social science or humanities training. So, I will only point out that " subconscious " is a refuted concept in neurology. Unconscious/non-conscience are the preferred terms and as with much new terminology, there is much functional difference. Your intellect and you plus your unconscious, is all one integrated system. What you propose, seems to be some form of property dualism. The conscious and unconscious are show to be richly connected and predicated; one on the other.

PS Your additional detail remark on autistics shows me that your questions position is tendentious.

Intuition is accurate and poignant and surprising when you are able to tap into it in a positive way. I have found that the path of Love Spirit and Truth hold the greatest wisdom. I have a somewhat high IQ maybe I think more but you've got to give credit to the source of everything to have true wisdom flow through you. Our sub conscious is very powerful. It stores things our limited conscious mind rarely tapes into. If you meditate you can raise the flow of information between sub conscious and conscious mind. 'In tune' people connect many more levels of awareness.Creative people cone ct the dots and are able to draw on a more abstract idea of the world, allowing for more possible answers to come forth. I would say a genuine desire to be aware, and creativity (thinking outside the box) are the best ways to let it flow. People who think enough to know themselves into healing and growth HAVE IT GOING ON!!

This is a good question. As the mind develops it can serve as a prison for an interlude. A person knows thus he isn't open to new learning in that particular area. In this sense the mind slays the real. But as the mind develops further man learns to be open minded and to tap into a higher self. In esoteric cricles the lower mind and the higher mind are spoken of as two distinct entities. IQ isn't necessarily an indication of an open mind or to high self realization. It's simply a quotient that takes into consideration the responses to factual data and the means to formulate the answer or to memorize facts. Those who we think of genius were often thought of as absent minded, probably because their focus was not on the mundane world so much as finding resolution to a problem or exploring realms beyond our everyday thinking.

I think what you're finding is that the facts and data we store in our heads can interfere with wisdom. We use the intellect but also need to go past that into the realm of intuition and tapping into a level of soul awareness or subconscious communication. That along with experience leads to self realization IMO.

Boy, have you opened a can of worms! It really depends on what you understand IQ to be. If you mean an intelligence quotient (the ability to reason) then the answer is no. Some very advanced computers can reason, but to the best of our awareness, they are not sentient. therefore IQ does not confer self awareness necessarily.

I think it is great that you are so in touch with yourself, and recognize this fact. It probably does work great for you; however, I would not generalize and say this theory is applicable to everyone. There are many highly intelligent people who do not have the good sense to "come in out of the rain," so to speak.

IQ testing has come under a great deal of scrutiny over the years ,due to the fact many very intelligent people do not do so well on the test for a variety of different reasons. Thus, they are often not an accurate measure of intelligence.

There's high IQ and there's wisdom which are not the same. Yes, trying to force the subconscious to produce an answer is counterproductive.

That has nothing to do with self realization. You are just more relax and your subconscious just starts noticing patterns in the test or a certain word triggers and answer. I say keep on with what you are doing.

I am skeptical of IQ testing. However, the evidence from a number of researchers in the field of IQ testing implies that both genetics and one's upbringing shapes one's IQ.
