I think answers should vary according to the sections you visit. There is MUCH to do in Atlanta if you like to stay busy: shopping, zoo, museums, cyclorama, Aquarium, Underground, Coca Cola Museum, Six Flags, etc.,etc.

If you love history, we've got it in Dahlonega (site of the U.S.'s first gold rush), Roosevelt's Little White House in Warm Springs, the Civil War's Andersonville Prison, Savannah.

If you're into nature, there are plenty of hiking trails, Providence Canyon, Helen (beautiful scenery around a Bavarian style town).

If you like a laid-back pace of life and fantastic southern hospitality, this is the state to be.

I'm a transplanted Pennsylvanian. The weather gets extremely hot in the summer with little to no snow depending on the region where you settle. That could be a plus, if you like it warm. The beaches of the Golden Isles (Jekyll and St. Simon's) are close by, or it's just a hop, skip, and jump to Florida's many beaches.

It's all what you make of it, but Georgia's got a lot to offer!

I know the other guy pasted from the state tourism page, and that list is good. Here are some good activities though - (1) See the laser show at night at Stone Mountain Park. 20 minutes east of downtown, the laser show starts when it is dark and last til about 10:15. Take a blanket and a picnic with some wine. Lots of fun. (2) Take a trip north of the city for about an hour & half to Dahlonega, GA. Mountain town, site of first gold rush, US Mint was here, and it is just a fun little mountain town. Also see the falls nearby and go eat at the Smith House. (3) World of Coke & Aquarium are right next to each other. Call ahead for tix. (4) Go eat dinner at one of the Buckhead Life Group restaurants in Buckhead, esp. Fogo de Choa. Awesome food. You might also check out the Varsity (greasy food but fun), the top of the Westin downtown for great views of the city, or anywhere else that serves southern food. (5) Go see a movie at the Fox Theatre one night - historic theatre. Normally movies play during the summer when there is not a show there. Really worth going to. Also check out the Krispy Kreme factory just down the road from there (2 min away). (6) Go check out the Cyclorhama when you go to the zoo. They are right next to each other. I'm spelling it wrong, but it is worth seeing and shows civil war history. (7) Go to a Braves game and go early. Check out the Buffalo hot dogs in the plaza, the Braves musuem and the Coke pavilion at night for a great view of the city. (8) Check out Chastain Park Ampitheatre and see if any groups you want to see are in town. GREAT place to see a concert. You can take a picnic basket, set up a small table (get one from the hotel) and sit out under the stars for a concert. Traffic is bad everywhere from 4 to 6:30 at night, so plan on being somewhere before it starts. The city is safe during the day, but it is still a metropolitan city - meaning that most people head to the suburbs after dark. You will know where is safe, so don't worry. It is tons safer than New York or Boston, and you will feel fine whereever you go. Have a nice trip!

It is really great: Mountains, Wine, Ancient churches, located in wonderful landscapes, far from routine and civilization. Very high sky and open-hearted people, ready to die for friends and relatives.
