When employed, the company is obliged to pay you for all Bank Holidays and usually gives you a number of additional days paid leave each year - usually minimum 14 days, most employers giving about 25 days.

Contrary to the other answers - it all depends on the contract you have. Currently the minimum holidays an employer can offer is 20 days (pro rata) which includes 4 bank holidays PLUS the other 4 bank holidays. From 1 April 2009 this will chnge to 20 days (pro rata) plus the 8 bank holidays. Hope this helps Alex

Paid - probably yes
Need to work bank holidays - possibly yes
More pay for working bank holidays - possibly not - depends upon industry.
I worked in leisure industry, we were expected to work every bank holiday, but we had 30 days holiday (includes 9 days in lieu of bank holidays).
No overtime and often 60 hours a week.
Avoid the leisure industry if you can.

You usually get paid monthly based on a twelfth of you year's salary. This takes account of public and personal holidays. They are described as paid holiday, but it depends how you look at it.
