MACs can run most windows apps, but certainly not all of them. MAC software is generally more expensive and harder to find.
HOWEVER, MACS are easier to use, and come with a stable, powerful set of built-in apps that allow you to do whaterver you want anyway.
If you are a graphics/art major, definitely choose a MAC. For Information tech, or business majors, you probably want to give serious consideration to a Windows PC.
PS Running Windows apps on a MAC is NOT as easy as they would have you believe. Also, the hardware (the computer itself) is more expensive.

I have a MacBook. The Mac side is awesome, and the PC side is... I'd say better than most other PC computers that I've worked with. Just get some anti virus like you would for any other PC that you would buy.
Some flaws include...
Switching from Mac to PC side requires a restart, which can getting annoying at times, though I have not tried Parallel Desktops yet.
Only one side can keep the correct time. Yes, it is very strange, but whenever I shut down one side to go to the other, the time changes... I just keep Mac on the right time, and try to ignore the time when on PC side.
Since the other operting system is shut down when on the other, the computer cannot access the other side for anything, ie transfer of music, documents, etc. I suggest buying a good Memory stick, or an external Hard Drive (HD). so that you can by-pass this.
Also, I suggest buying a Mouse, IF you decide on a laptop. Buying a Mac means you have a Mac key-board, that is quite unlike a PC keyboard (ie "delete key" does not exist). Therefore, PC will not understand commands such as option-click (in Mac, right click, but PC nothing) and no control-alt-delete, to name a few. Buying an extra mouse if you're going for the laptop, is well worth it.
Over all, I think it will be worth what you spend for a Mac with an Intel Proccessor. I also suggest buying it from an Apple Authorized Reseller, rather than directly from Apple. Authorized resellors often Pre-install Windows, for an extra price (approx $200), but well worth figuring out how to do this on your own. Good luck n what you pursue

I use both PC and MacBook Pro, and you can install Windows on the new Intel based Macs but this brings with it the virus problems.. if you install windows on it you are basically setting up a Windows machine. Performance is much the same but there were problems in that not all the drivers were available for all the mac hardware with Windows.

I maintain Macs for my company and put XP on all the new Intel ones. It runs on a separate partition and makes for a perfectly fine Windows computer. You can see the XP partition from OSX, so it's easy to move files from one to the other.
I have a Macbook myself, and my external monitor actually works better under Windows than it does under OSX.

I use both platforms and have found that Macs are very convenient because they recognise almost anything you plug into them (cameras, printers, drives) without any driver downloading or stuff like that. They don't crash as often either. However, if you don't do much media work PCs are much cheaper and can get the job done.
I wouldn't install Windows on the Mac. My friends and I have found that WindowsXP slows your computer down terribly

ny is basic as "ny" as a results of fact some time past a well-known human beings hero (Johnny Appleseed) planted a single seed interior the direction of the city. Then, in an unusual warp in area-time, a boy named Jack planted a seed he believed to be magical interior a similar spot. In what continues to be seen a marveling organic and organic progression, the two seeds fused jointly on a molecular point. After an stunning rain, the seed hybrid grew into an apple 300ft tall and approximatively 330ft extensive. The strangest difficulty being the absence of a tree. it variety of feels the apple became thoroughly ordinary, different than it grew on the instant from the floor with its own roots like a beanstalk of a few form. for some destiny years, human beings could bypass to the city and lookup on the impossible fruit and picture "it somewhat is an excellent apple". After a whilst human beings began relating the city itself as "ny". yet then, 1943 Oct eleventh, something unusual handed off. as a results of fact the city laid to sit down down back, the night as quickly as lower back upon them, there became a stunning flash of purple easy. The flash lasted for almost 4-5 seconds. no person is for specific what led to the flash, yet as quickly because it became over the apple had basically disappeared. not basically had it vanished, the floor it had grown from had closed as though it weren't in any respect there. some say the apple had grown so super it created some sort of fruity supernova and collapsed in on itself in a black hollow. some say the aliens answerable for the loss of life of the dinosaurs got here lower back and destroyed the apple besides. We won't in any respect comprehend precisely what handed off that night, yet one difficulty is for specific. That became a huge-*** apple.
