You're right, it would be more fun to wake up like people did a hundred years ago to find a hurricane had arrived without any warning. Those pesky weather monitoring satellites are just overrated geek toys, huh? Plus, that whole, GPS being able to locate exactly where you are is annoying, just use a map and guess. Like with GPS guided bombs in warfare--so they impact a little off, no big deal right?
I could go on, but I am sure if I get too technical, you wouldn't understand. Oh, and one more thing, it has been proven that the earth is round, NOT flat..really.

There are a lot of advances that they carry out that at the time do not get much publicity but later it turns out it was something very important such as the microwaves. At the moment they are working on making drugs (the good kind) and some scientists are saying it is another stepping stone on the way to curing cancer.

Walk around your house... Every appliance, TV, radio, stereo, DVD player, microwave, telephone, cell phone, computer, answering machine, your digital camera, camcorder... even your hot water heater, air conditioning and forced air furnace or heat pump were directly affected and drastically improved by the research and development leading to the technological advances that got us into space.... It was WELL worth it, and you haven't even walked out to the driveway yet...

The cost of money means nothing. Money is just paper. If we forget money exists then to some extent it starts to satify our inquisitive nature of what we dont know.
