Lets critic the two computers:
Customer support
Dells have the worste customer support, they charge you 50$ a question, Thus making

Apples Have fairly nice people working for them, and you can purches insurces from them where if your product Is broken they'll replace it. Also they do not change.

So I give dell 1/10 for customer service and
8/10 For apple
Hard-Wear
Dells are pretty easy to upgrade certain parts, Then again sometimes you don't get all you need for your money. Sometimes you'll get a really nice Graphics card and Little ram or vice verse or a Nice sized hard drive with a crap mother board. Dell Pulls off this stunt on allot of their less than 1grand computers to people who don't do so well with parts of computers

Macs- Mac has a reputation to not screw up, So they don't pull the same type of scam, But They are a tad bit more annoying to upgrade.

Dell 3/10
Mac 6/10
Software-
Dell Runs on Windows and windows software witch tends to be the more business type.

Macs run on a thing that allow as you too use both Platforms Mac and PC Programs and the Nice add of I life if your into developing any thing your good.

5/10
5/10

Mac Wins In my opion and Its just a opion so good luck on choosing your next comp may the force be with you and never forget sometimes change is good.

Depends what you use your computer for mate, i Study multimedia at college now and i use the brand new mac G5's, and windows at home, to be honest the macs are not as customisable and flexible as windows (NOWHERE NEAR) but there really good for graphics and design.

But like i said, depends what you need the pc for, if its just for family use, chatting, emails, a bit of web coding and ebay, stick with windows.

Just my opinion, but its a good one to me :)

Also apple macs are harder to get parts cheap for, you'll get a better dell for the money you will pay for a low end of the market mac.
