we live in a place that doesnt allow dogs or cats... states so on our lease... I have a doctors note stating that i need to have a dog due to health reasons. Can my place legally kick me out for owning a dog...

In VA if your Landlord owns more than 7 rental properties in the same area he/she must abide by Fair Housing Laws, in that case yes, you can have your dog... if he does not then no, he doesn't ahve to allow.

...No, the tenant must provide a certificate to landlord. That animal is for "assisted living". From doctor. The tenant is responsible for any damage to unit by "assisted living animal". (This IS the term for your new critter). Do not call the animal a pet. Pet are not always allowed in rental property. No deposit is required in AZ for an assisted living animal.
Also said animal must be indigent to geography of U.S....no exotics or illegal animals can be allowed. Good Luck,
