if the room itself doesnt get too cold itl be fine! I had guppies in a small tank with no heater just an airstone! they are now in my new 29 gallon tank!

They could, but it ultimately depends on where you live. If you live somewhere where it is cold right now, the fish won't be very active. All tropical fish like to have warm water, so i would recomend even getting a small heater, they cost like 10 bucks maybe at walmart.

If the water doesn't get too cold, they can live in the tank without a heater.

A small heater will keep the water temp stable and make it easier to keep the fish healthy, sudden temperature drops cause "ich", which is not easy to cure, your Dad is right, but so am I. Have fun,PeeTee

yes if the air temp is warm. but heaters are pretty cheap so you should get one because guppys are tropical
