Actually why can't a snotty little 17 year old middle class kid drag her disrespectful butt to a job and save money for a car?
(Just to irritate you - we are a well off family, and I refused to buy my teenager a car either - some things have to be worked for.)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Do you realize this car has to be kept up and has a lot of upkeep besides putting gas and insurance on it? Do you follow rules and do what is asked of you. Cause other problems called respect and so forth? Or maybe financially your mom can not afford it and it's a polite way to just say no. Get a job and save some money maybe that will be a starter....worth a try. Good luck!!!

Maybe you should think about going about it a different way. Maybe you should have a talk with her and discuss matching, she may feel better about that. If you really think you are grown up enough to have a car, go out and get a job, save at least half of the money and then maybe she will be more apt to helping you out. Show her how much you want a car.

Wow - you sound like a spoiled brat. Why don't you get a job and buy your own damn car. Or better yet, buy your mom something worth $5,000. If you go through life with the attitude that other people owe you something you're going to be in for a rude awakening.

first you need to express these feelings with your mother sit down with her and tell her you understand the money situation, tell her you would like a car and that you will do anything in your power to help her buy one, ask her to help you get a plan going on purchasing a car ask her what she can do to help you achieve your goal of a car, make sure to do this after a few days of being really good and all doing lots of extra chores ect... and bring those up to her when your talking about the car tell her your growing up and you would like some more responsibility in your life and will help her help you in getting a car

how about getting a JOB and U buying the car instead of looking for a hand out...its not mom's job to buy u the car now is it....hopefully soon u will be 18 and will move out and live on your own and support yourself so u can stop expecting mom to do everything for you...time is a ticking.....

I asked the same exact question when I was 17. I wanted my parents to buy me a car because my friends got cars from their parents. They said "no". I had to save the money myself. When I was able to earn enough cash for a junker, they helped me out with something a little better.
That was one of the best lessons I learned from them, because now I know how to work for whatever I want. They made it possible for me to have almost any car I want now.

Maybe she wants u to develop alittle responsibility. Get a desent paying job and save up.
I bought my own crappy car at age 17 before I even had my license for $800.
Sometimes you gotta deal with what you can get til you make more money.

If you don't like the fact that your Mom can't buy you a car, cause she has bills to pay, then get yourself a job and buy your own car!

$5k for a midddle income single mom is way too much to ask for. Get a job, show her you can save money and maybe she can contribute a portion. Also tell her you intend to pay for the insurance as well. Get a job.
