Hi,

My bathroom door is locked from inside and is not opening. The lock is push and turn type. Looking from outside, there are just 2 screws. I haven't yet tried removing those screws. Will it be helpful? Can I do myself or will I have to call a professional. I would like to do it myself. Your help is appreciated.

thanks.

You should have that little hole that is mentioned. If you do not have the "key," you can use a piece of coathanger wire to push in the hole. If that doesn't work, try a very small screwdriver in the hole and turn the screwdriver to unlock.

If you take the screws out, there is probably a release button to push on the shaft of the knob. It should be rectangular. Push it to remove the handle. Remove the handle before taking the screws out or you might not see it.

You can usually put your finger in the hole, once the handle and "guts" are removed. You will see something there to push or pull or move around to open the latch.

It is usually an easy DIY project.

If the two screws you can see from the outside of the door are in a flange surrounding the handle, then by all means, remove them and the handle should either pull out the front or push through to the inside. Once the knob assembly with shaft is out of the mechanism you should be able to insert a screwdriver into the square opening and when you twist it should open the latch. If this is the right type door latch and it 's installed properly, then there should be a small hole in the center of the outside knob, which can be accessed by a small metal key, that should have been left with you the homeowner, when the latch was installed. Some of these latches work by just inserting the small metal key shaft and pressing against the back of the latch assy., others have a small flat on one end that must be inserted and then turned.

Ours you push and turn the lock thing not the whole doorknob, is it like that? We have small holes on the other end in which we have a key specifically for that. If it does have a hole you would have to find something in your house that is small and long enough to put in the doorknob and you kind of turn the door knob as you push the object in.

I would drill out the screws and just push everything in, replace the screws but, you might want to think about a new latch, somethings worn out or, wearing.

usually you can do one of two things, put a small screwdriver in the hole in the center of the handle and turn it to unlock, or pop off the outside handle by pushing in on the slot near the base and finding the unlock under the handle

Slip a credit card or something similar into the door frame where the lock goes into the door and see if you can open it that way.
