u have asthma, your boyfriend also has asthma, so the chances are that your baby will have it too - asthma is usually passed on through genes. i'm asthmatic, and so is my son. i had problems getting him diagnosed, even though i knew for sure that's what the problem was - in the end i changed doctors, and went in there with a list of his symptoms, and talked to a nurse who ran the asthma clinic. luckily, she agreed with what i said, and gave him an inhaler. as for doctors not being diagnosed asthma until children are at least two years old, well, i'd have to disagree with that. ok - my son was 2 before being diagnosed, but i had a friend who has 2 daughters, and they were both diagnosed as being asthmatic when they were younger than 2, and they both received medication for it. maybe u could think about paying privately, and take your son to a specialist ? that's what my mum & dad had to do when i was a kid, as no one really took the problem seriously. don't give up - keep pushing them - your son's health is worth it.

Please keep in mind that most inhalers have a Steroid as the agent that clears the Bronchial tubes. At 8months if it is simply a wheeze, and it is not causing problems maybe hold off on the inhalers. I'm sure you are just trying to help the baby you love, but if it's not necessary, and even if it is 8 month old don't need steroids in their system. The cure might be worse alternative than the cause. Also, it could be minor allergies to house dust, or plants in your house, Air fresheners in the home, or a multitude of other things that could be fixed by removing. Could be environmental, do you live in an industrial City with Plants and factories near by?? My point being, Steroid medication should be low on the remedy list after you consider all these things. His long term health could suffer for nothing.

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.

I cured my Asthma the natural way?

Take him to see an Allergy and Asthma specialist. Most of the time the cause of asthma is environmental allergies. Sometimes when you get the allergies under control, the asthma clears up as well, unless triggered by another allergy. Don't let Dr's lie to you, children this age can get asthma and allergies. They are the leading causes of other illnesses in children. There just aren't alot of meds that have been developed to help these little ones just yet. One of the biggest causes of asthma in babies who don't have other allergies is cigarette smoke. Whatever you do, don't let anyone smoke around your baby. Even lingering smoke smell in fabrics have been known to cause asthma flare ups in babies. If smoking isn't a cause, then maybe you could get a air filtration device to put in the baby's room. At least the air where he/she is sleeping would be a little better. Hope that he's ok. Good luck.

I couldn't really say if it was asthma, for all you know it could be a mild cold, but i would recommened keeping him on the inhaler just be sure until he is 2 to get a diagnosis.

I was diagnosed with asthma when i was 2, and have had a inhaler all my life, but have only used it maybe 2 times during that whole lifespan, so don't feel horrible or get terrified that it will affect your baby.

Hope for the best. pray!

I have 3 children and only one has asthma. Since both my husband and I have had asthma problems at some point in our life the doctor was surprised that only one of our children has asthma. My son developed problems at 9 months and is now 14 and on daily preventive medications. We have worn out 2 nebulizers before he begain taking daily meds. Doctors are more apt to call it a "reactive airway" in a young age because "asthma" is considered a pre-existing condition and may prevent you from getting insurance at some point. You may want to take your son to a allergy clinic and have him evaluated. Hope everything works out for you!

my son was also like this. he had eczema aswell. the doctors wanted to give him inhalors aswell but i refused. instead we got a goat and milked it fresh every evening, no cows milk or formula, no smoking in house or car, no perfumes or strong smells. he is now two and a half, eczema is cleared up completely and hasnt wheezed since last april. had one or two colds but chest clear every time. i think doctors are too ready to hand out medicine. there is also breathing/chest/lung problems on my partners side but i am glad i didnt succumb to giving preventors and inhalors all the time. the goat dried up after a year and now i have to give him the stuff in the carton(not as good). i saw an improvement straight away when he started on the goats milk and it is hard not to spray deoderant but the effort is worth it i think. in the end it depends on how much you want to help your child.

It does sound like he has it...........Doctors will always say he has not got it when he was very young because they won't give inhalers out..........

Two of my friends have gone through exactly the same thing, they have finally been given inhalers.....

All I can say is if it is helping him now the inhaler give it too him, he might only need it when he has a cold etc later and hopefully once he is running around a excercising those lungs he might not need his inhaler any more....

He is young I will keep my fingers crossed that he grows out of it xxxx
