Paul it is an individual thing. I took some of mine off the tree, found new ones and put those on the tree to see what they would look like.
I have friends that won't take their tree down until near the end of January.
I think it is great to leave things up as long as one wishes.
Bugg*r anyone who thinks it odd!

Hey, whatever you are comfortable with -- just do it. For myself, I start taking the Christmas Decs down beginning today (2 Jan) -- a set or two of lights a day from the exterior display -- clean the sets, check to see all the bulbs are working, and put them carefully away. By the time a week from today is done ... I will be finished with removing the rest of the Christmas Lights from in front of my home.

I hope you're not so sad you burst into tears before you finished your sentence. I'm guessing you were going to say Christmas feeling.

Officially its the 6th Jan they should come down. I took mine down today. I love to see them go up - and I get a kick when they're all put away, but I always think the house looks dark and empty. You can actually see why so many people get depression in January with cold, dark, wet, miserable nights...Am I the only one who thinks when everyone has taken them down, everywhere looks darker and dingy??

Although some countries traditionally leave their decs. up for 40 days Epiphany, on January 6th is officially the last day of Christmas so all decs. should be taken down by then. Although it's meant to be good luck to leave one decoration up throughout the year!

If you are saying that you are sad because you have to take them down, then don't take them down just yet. Leave them up another week or so. It's okay to do that. I'm leaving my artificial Christmas Tree up until this weekend, then I'm taking it down. It is so pretty, I'd like to leave it up until Spring ~ but that's a little far fetched...

I know of some people that leave them up all year because they don't want to deal with taking them down just when they are going to be putting them up again in 12 months again anyway.

The Christmas Season goes right through to the Epiphany (12th Night - Jan 6th approx) - keep them up until then.

The REAL question is - how early did you put them up?

The deccies shouldn't be taken down before the 12th day of Christmas which is January 5th. That's when mine come down, on my birthday.
Don't forget the card.

That's cool if you want to leave them up..nothing wrong with that. I just took mine down today. I wouldnt leave the lights up on your front porch all year though because people might think you're a redneck.
