Did you get carried away from the Christmas and New Year's vacation? Well I did all the math work for you. If you need any help, my e-mail is timschulze@sbcglobal.net. I could tutor you anytime if you want. Don't worry, I used to be bad at this too. I eventually caught up to it. Now I'm in high school.

oh goodness, i remeber 6th grade, just wait till 7th :)

well, here is how you solve a problem.

lets take the 1st one

2m-4=10

how i learned, since this is a subtraction equation, you would changed the subtraction into an addition and the number after that the inverse(postive becomes a negative and vise versa)

so now the problem is 2m+-4=10

now, you will try to isolate the variable, so you would add four to each side(if was a poitive number, you would subtract, so the inverse)

so after you add the problem is now 2m = 14 (the 4 is no longet there becuase the two fours cancel each other out)

so now you divide each side by two(you are still trying to isolate the variable)

so you have m = 7, and there you go, your answer!

and you can check if you wish; just substitute

2 x 7 - 4 = 10
14 - 4 = 10
10 = 10

IT WORKS!!

so that is how you solve them! and i completed your first problem for you.

I will do the next problem for you, but then your on your own
you DO have to learn you know!

t + 3 = 8
t = 5

if there is the same variable in two different places, you can combine them, like in problem 8 you can combine the like variables

so now its 80 = 6n + 8

well, i hope this helped :) now, do your homework!

how about I tell you how to do it so you can do it later and on a possible test!

Let's take #1.

You always do subtraction/addition first when moving things over and the sign will change when adding and subtracting. So, you will do this 2m=10+4 or 2m=14. Then you will have to divide 14 by 2 which is 7. So m=7.

I will also do #2 with you.

t+3=8 subtract three from eight (t=8-3). so t=5

first of all this is not college work, it's seventh grade work, & second of all i will show you two examples, stop making people do your homework for you!!
1) 2m-4=10
2m is like 2 times m, but first you want to get rid of annything that is in the way of m being alone, in this case it's 4. you have to do the oppostie, since your working backwards, so you do 10 + 4:
2m-4=10
+4 + 4
2m =14
now you have to get the m alone again, and the 2 is in the way, so now you divide.
2m/2 = m
14/2= 7
so as you see, you bring down the m & you have it with 7, so m=7 :] theres our answer.

2) t+3=8
3 is in the way of t being by its self, so once again we do the opposite & subtract 3 from 8:
t+3=8
-3 -3
t = 5
ok, now we have t left with 5, and since there is
no other variable besides t, we have out answer. t=5

hope i helped!!! you can do teh rest yourself using my examples, you see you will never learn if you don't do it yourself, yes it can be a pain, but i had this last year in 7th grade & in 6th grade, so trust me i know this is right.
GOOD LUCK :]

I agree with the guy above. If you can't do this, you're going to have terrible problems in high school.

I'll help you out with #1 & #10 but the rest you can do.

1) 2m-4=10
first add 4 to both sides of the equation.

2m-4=10
+4 +4
2m=14
then divide both sides by 2
2m=14
/2 /2
m=7

10)3+2f-14+5f=24
first comine your like terms, the variables and the plain numbers on the left side of the equation.

7f-11=24
add 11 to both sides
7f-11=24
+11 +11
7f=35
divide both sides by 7
7f=35
/7 /7
f=5

...Wow. You think thats hard? Try taking 10th grade math... in 8th grade. Psht.

Now. Chill out, you'll never get it done whilst your stresssed. Let me show you how to do number 10.

3+2f-14+5f=24

First we have to combine like variables.

2f+5f
and
3-14

When you add 5f to 2f, you get 7f.
And 3 minus 14 is -11.

that gives us this problem:

-11+7f=24

Now, what is the goal? The goal is to get the variable alone on one side. first lets get rid of the -11. To get ride of it on the left side of the equals sign, you must do inverse operations. what do you do to get zero? Since the number is a negative, you must add. So add 11.

-11+7f |=|24
+11 | |+11

See the lines I made? These help us seperate the prolem so we know what side is what. Out teacher makes us call them "Rail Road Tracks." They help a hell of a lot. ;)

So, we add 11 to both sides, and we get...

7f|=|35
| |

Now, we need to get the f alone, so we have to get rid of the 7. Since it is multiplication, we must do the opposite. Which is...? Right. Division.

We divide both sides by 7.

7f/7|=|35/7

Now work it out. 7 divdied by 7 = 0. So that leaves us with 0f, or 'f'. and 35 divided by 7 = 5.

So we have:

f=5

There you go, hun. If you need more help, feel free to email me at:

For each equation you need to isolate the variable. Remember, you work backwards from your normal arithmatic. Meaning, you start with addition and subtraction and go to multiplication and division last.

So, for the first equation:
2m-4=10

Add four to each side. This way we keep the equation balanced. You can't just pull numbers from thin air so...

2m-4=10
+4 +4
----------------------
2m=14

Now, you divide by two on each side to solve for your variable.

m=14

I'm not going to work each one out individually, but I will provide answers for each. Please try to do them yourself, that is the only way you will gain from this.

2. t=5
3. x=7
4. k=8
5. y=9
6. j=15
7. g=4
8. n=12
9. z=14
10. f=5

Keep trying, you will get it eventually. To make sure you have got the right answer, plug the number back into the original equation and both sides should be equal. If not, your number you got is wrong.
