Replace the hard plastic tube with styrofoam and remove the batteries from your child's toy. This will make it safer.

Keep it in your 'night' sheath. The darkness will cancel out the light making it harmless to you until drawn. That, or you can just lower the light wave amplication to 1.035 milowatts.

What kind of light does it use? I bet it would be "safer" if you chose fluorescent or incandescent light. Of course, it might not cut through anything.

umm...the one I have is plastic and you push a little red button and flick your wrist and it opens....lol it was cheap because I didn't know any better...
