I mean up until the end he didn't show remorse or anything. He didn't say sorry for all the atrocities. It seems to me that he thought that all the things he did, no matter how terrible, in his mind were justifiable "for the good of the country" so to speak?

Lots of people who are very self-absorbed into their crimes feel justified in doing their atrocities. What of husbands who kill their wives just for filing for divorce? You won't be able to find logic in their reasoning, and no talking will sway them from their perspective.

He's now on the other side, and can harm no one here now. He's on his own, meeting what fate he designed for himself.

You have to remember that a "crazy" person thinks they are thinking clearly and "normal" people are wrong. Its all about how a person perceives a situation. Something that I believe is completely ok could bother someone else and vice versa. Unfortunately he thinks everything he did was for a greater good or something.

He's dead now, his terror is over, so why question it any more

Saddam thought he was right...of course. These are tribal people and have been fighting and killing each other for centuries...He thought he was right just as no parent ever woke up in the morning and thought " well I thing I will screw up my kids today "

I agree with jamesmom. And with Spiderman. With great power comes great responsibility. He was willing to take responsibility for killing people in order to save his country. Death is ugly, war is ugly. I don't think anybody, including Saddam disagrees with that.

Almost seems his ruthless, crude, evil ways are what needed in the middle east to keep the chaos thats going on there right now from being a common thing. Looks like it will never end, gonna be constant bombings, suicide bombings, executions, tortures, etc.

TRUTH BE TOLD WHEN HE WAS IN POWER THE IRAQI'S WERE NOT KILLING EACH OTHER BY THE HUNDREDS. THEY HAD NO INSURGENCY. AND SADDAM RULED THE PEOPLE HE HAD THE BEST WAY HE KNEW. SADDAM IS NOW GONE THE IRAQI'S ARE IN CIVIL WAR. THE ZOO KEEPER KNEW HOW TO KEEP THE ANIMALS IN LINE. SOMETHING THE U.S. IS HAVING A HELL OF A TIME DOING. THEY ARE OF A VIOLENT CULTURE. VIOLENCE IS WHAT KEPT THEM IN CHECK AND THE THREAT OF VIOLENCE KEPT THEM IN LINE. THEY KNOW WE LIVE BY RULES THEY HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF THAT.
WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE THEM THINK LIKE US INSTEAD OF US THINKING LIKE THEM AND UNDERSTANDING THE NONSENSE THAT THEY GO THROUGH.

Don't you think you are right and that everyone who thinks differently than you is wrong?

I'm not comparing you to a monster at all. I'm simply making a point that most people don't change their opinions.

Yes, yes, yes. The only way I can sleep at night is to assume that people are not really bad, but think they are right in doing terrible things.

You are probably right. He undoubtedly felt he was right about what he did. I would venture to say that now he is in the hands of a just God and knows the truth.
