blacks consume 14% of illegal drugs in the usa.
whites consume 70% of the illegal drugs in the usa.
others consume the rest 16% respectively.
while these numbers may vary slightly, this is the census information done by a consalidated group of government offices.
CONSIDER THIS: 94% of those surveyed admitted that they purchased illicit drugs from somebody of thier own race. with this in mind, if whites consume the majority of the illicit drugs imported / manufactured in the usa (70%), why do they only make up the smallest percentage of inmates and blacks make up the largest. keep in mind that the usa government documents that drugs are bought from those of the purchasers own race in almost all cases.........ILLICIT DRUGS = ANY DRUG WHETHER PRESCRIPTION OR STREET..........NOT LIQUOR

i agree with everyone else. what a bunch of bull. blacks make up about 13% of the population, though at times, you would think its more like 90. i am sure i will get a lot of vicious email mentioning this.

I agree with other answerers who have questioned these statistics. People seem to believe that if they put a number with a percent after it, it will be taken as fact. We need sources, and we need to know how those sources collected their information, to be able to take any numbers seriously.

You also likely oversimplify the case, as there are usually other illegal activities going on besides drug use that lead someone of any race into jail. It is usually the drug selling, or the stealing to support a drug habit, or other actions of this sort that usually lead someone to be arrested and jailed.

There is likely an overrepresenation of blacks who are in jail for drug-related offenses, as compared to whites, because inner cities where blacks make up a larger percentage of the population are often victims of gang-related violence (fueled by the drug trade and general economic distress). This gang-related violence leads to stepped-up police activity in the area, which makes it more likely that those involved in crimes that are not gang-related may still end up getting caught. There are also probably police who believe that by going after drug users, they may somehow be getting potentially dangerous criminals off the street (though this is certainly questionable, and probably inaccurate).

I question your statistics. Even if valid the question is what % of each race consumes illicit drugs, not what % of drugs are consumed by each race. Moreover, while many people are in jail due to illicit drug usage, dealing, possession, etc., there are a lot of other crimes that have been committed that put people behind bars.

Minorities have always gotten the shaft. Why? because they use court appointed lawyers. I think the figures may be wrong that you have. It also depends on the type of drugs that are being sold. Pot is probably a whiote man's drug, crack is said to be a black man's drug. Depending on what you are caught with, how many times you have been arrested also has a lot to do with who is incarcerated.

I don't understand how this question is relating to your information. How is the information provided going to get your quesiton answered about minorities and inequalities? While I'll agree with some or part of your information, you're data on prison poplulation has nothing to do with the drug usage/crime data. There is no corespondence.

You must be consuming 120% of the illegal drugs in this country to come up with those statistics! I am familiar with most of the studies, either reputable or not quite so, and nothing out there reflects this particular rant. Cite your sources, or quit fantasizing!

Drugs are not the only reason people are in prison. Our prisons are filled with people who have committed crimes. A guilty black man in prison is not "getting the shaft" because a guilty white man isn't in prison.
