The diffrence between a vet and vet technician is a lot of money. A vet is = to a doctor, a vet technician is = to a nurse. I worked at a vet office outside of Chicago and the technicians made around 12 an hour to start. Vets do make a decent living but there are many factors to it. Where do you live? The market is saturated. Also, small animal vet, I am not sure what you are meaning. Like cats and dogs or exotics like birds, rats, gerbils, ect. Also, after you get your degree you can specialize and make more money. There is also good money to made if you open an emergency vet clinic. I can tell you whenever I took my pet to an emergency clinic it was souble the cost, but you have to realize these people are up all night and are the only people open when your animal is hurt. I saw once that the average wage overall for vets though is around 60,000. Hope this helps.

I actually work in an Animal Shelter, I do not work with vets, but I do work with Vet Techs. Vets do make a good living. Why? They can suck money out of people very easily. People will pay anything for their animals so a Vet can charge you 35 dollars for eye ointment when really, it's worth 10 dollars.

As far as hours are concered, it'd only be awkward if you worked in an 24 hour animal hospital.

The problem with being a vet is that it is insanely competitive. There are soooo many vets out there and you have to cut your profits down to the minimum in order to keep your prices compeitive with the other vets. Also, kill someones dog, that'll put you out of business in a hurry. Most vets rely 100% on word of mouth for advertisement and every time an animal comes in that you can't save and a 5 year old girl goes around telling ALL her friends and friends parents that you killed her doggie, you're done.

The REAL money with vets is equine specialists. Horse are worth BIG bucks and people pay big bucks to keep em healthy.

it actually depends on where you live. if you live in a city, ofcourse you make a good living. dont worry about money part, because if you like doing something, then you will bound to reach success. no matter how much money we make, it is still not enough.
