I have just taken my dog for a walk, and coming home, we passed a field, and a farm gate. My dog went nuts barking, then i saw some boots sticking out from the gateway. I felt a bit scared, i took a look, and there is this guy, curled up in the gateway. I thought he was dead, i felt worried, then a jogger came along, i waved him down, and he took a look, said the guy was breathing, but we could not stir him. He told me to ring the police when i got home. I came home, my daughter came back to the guy with me, to see if we could stir him, no response. I phoned the hospital, they adviced i ring 999. As i was about to do this, the guy suddenly looked up, told us to leave him alone. I asked if he was okay, he said, just go and leave me alone. He looked cold. I have been told by family, he will be okay, as he spoke to you, leave him be. I feel a bit bad leaving him there, but i guess he was okay. What would you have done?

Oh, I'm not sure. My instict would be the same as yours - to try to help him some how. However, since he sat up and said he was fine and wanted to be left alone, he was probably ok and might genuinely prefer not to go to the hospital.
I think I would probably leave him. But well done you for showing kindness and concern - we need more people like you in the world.

I believe he might have been on drugs and didn't want a blood test. He might have already had his DNA taken (fingerprint or swab) and so didn't want any of the blue light services coming his way. I think he might be a heroin addict just coming out of a high. I'd make the decision based on his hole appearance... clothes, age, and facial characteristics... an old smartly dressed man I would have phoned the police, a middle aged scruffy man I wouldn't have unless I felt he was in serious danger of loosing consciousness...

I would phone the police and let them know anyway. Better to be safe than sorry, this man could have some sort of a 'problem'. Just call them and explain.

Leave the information with the police. If he is a vagrant they will take care of it. He did not seem in immediate danger and there is no point in antagonizing someone because you can not know what their reaction might be.

Hi, I would still have phoned the authorities. Let them determine if he is alright or not. He can tell them to leave him alone, but they can evaluate the situation to see if he needs help. They are professionals and able to assess his well being better.

Offer him some food and ale. Come back in half an hour and ask him how did he get there and if there is any particual reason his is here. Who knows, maybe he has just undergone some horrific tragety and is sitting there, all traumatized.

The same. You tried to help & he didn't want it, that's all you can do is offer. Remember the story of the good samaritan? That was you, job well done. Happy New Year.

I appreciate your concern about him and can understand that you'd want to help, especially if you weren't able to wake him. Thank you for taking the time to check on him, as so many others wouldn't have.

l would have phoned the police then rang them later for the result. at least you know what was wrong with him and you wouldn't be thinking about it like you are now.
