To do this, you need to understand that (top)/(bottom) means top divided by bottom.
So to turn an improper fraction like 5/2 into a mixed number, you'd divide 5 by 2, getting 2 remainder 1
Then you'd write 2 1/2
(the denomintor comes from the original fraction)
To turn a mixed number into an improper fraction you'd go the opposite way:
2 1/2 = 2 + 1/2 = ((2x2)+1)/2 = 5/2
In general, to turn a mixed number into an improper fraction you have something like this:
whole number + fraction or
whole number + (numerator /denominator)
So to convert you'd do
((denomintor x whole number) + numerator)/denominator

5/2 is already an improper fraction. If you want to turn, say, 3 and 5/7 into an improper fraction, you multiply 3 by 7 and add 5 (26) and put that over 7 to get 26/7. Likewise, 2 and 3/5 is 13/5 because 2 times 5 plus 3 is 13.
If you want to turn an improper fraction like 17/3 (or 5/2) into a mixed fraction, first you find the number of times 3 goes into 17, which is 5. That goes in front. Then you take the leftover (2 in this case, because 5 3s is only 15) and put that over the 3. Your final answer, then, is 5 and 2/3. You can check it by multiplying the 5 by the 3 and adding 2 to make sure you end up with 17 again.

Take the whole number in the mixed number, multiply it by the denominator, and add the numerator. Put that over the denominator and that is the resulting improper fraction. For example:
3 1/2
3 x 2 + 1 = 7
Put the 7 over the denominator 2: 7/2.
If you have an improper fraction and want to convert it into a mixed number, divide the denominator into the numerator. The mixed number you want is then (quotient) (remainder)/(divisor). For example, if your fraction is 22/7, divide 7 into 22. The quotient is 3, and the remainder 1. So the mixed number is
(quotient) (remainder)/(divisor) = 3 1/7.

Well, this is how you do it:
you take the number on the bottom of the fraction bar and see how many times it can go into the top number. Then that is the number befor the fraction in your mixed number. Then you take what you have left and set it over the fraction and put them together. For example:
15/4
Four goes into fifteen three times so you have your first number. Then 4*3 is 12 and 15-12 is 3. So you take 3 and put it over 4, so you get 3/4. Then you put them together and your answer is :
3 3/4

Actually, isn't 5/2 the improper fraction?
To change this number find out how many times the denominator can fully devide into the numerator. This is your whole number. The remainder is your new numerator above the original denominator.
Example E/B = B A/B

well
ill use 7/4 instead
How many 4's will go in to 7
One complete four, but you will habe 3 numbers left 5 6 and 7
so the correct answer would be One remainder 3. Or in maths language 1 and 3/4
now. to change this back in to an improper fraction, or top heavy fraction as they call them over here. Multiply the bottom of the fraction by the number preceeding it and add it to the top
i.e.
12 3/4 would be 51/4 (4*12+3)/4
15 1/3 would be 46/3 (3*15+1)/3
Hope that makes it a bit clearer

5/2 IS the improper fraction. To change it to a mixed number, divide the numerator by the denominator, and the remainder (if any) goes over the denominator.

Multiply the denominator to the coefficient (integer) that is not in the fraction, then add the numerator to that answer and then put that answer back over the original denominator. Example: 3 3/4 would equal 15/4.

5/2 you divide 2 into 5 (i think) and the answer is the whole number, the remander id the numerator, and the 5 is 2 is still the denominator. the 2 goes under the bracket thingy. The 5 is the one on the side!!! Hope this helps!!!!
