I usually shutdown my PC everytime I finish my work with it. Is it ok to leave it running overnight. Does it affect the performance in a good OR bad way..and is it better to leave it on than starting 10-15 times a day?

Leave your computer on for the duration of the day at least...if not all the time...constant warming up and cooling down is bad for components....not to mention you run a greater chance of sending a surge to the motherboard...which will cause downtime...

I leave my computer ON 24-7-365 and i have not had the first problem in 3 years....(other than software problems that i created...damn vista...)

Is actually better to leave it on. The hard drives on the PC last longer if they are not stopping and starting all the time. The processor on a PC heats up during use so turning on and off could put it under strain (unlikely though).

Computers are designed for long term use.

THe only downside to leaving on all the time is they use more power.

I leave my computer on most of the day, but do close it down at night. Had this one for almost 3 years now, and apart from odd software probs that have occurred, I've had no problems with it.
I think that any properly built computer should be OK running all day providing the ambient temperature isn't excessive, and the cooling fans are working as they should.

Plenty of computers have been running for ten years straight. It's mainly to save electricity and keep from burning the screen on crt type monitors that people turn them off. The fans can also wear out eventually and draw a lot of dust in if you're not in a dust free environment.

Troubled31701 is correct; too much warming up / cooling down is bad for your PC components and can actually cause what's known as "chip creep". It is better to just leave it running for as long as possible.

If you're worried about power consumption, set your computer's screensaver to come on after 5 minutes of idle time, and set your computer to go into "standby" mode after 30 minutes or so.

It is not good to start up and shut down so many times per day. It could wear out the hard drive according to what I've read. Some people leave it on all the time. I start up in the morning, leave it on all day, and shut down at night.

My server stays on all the time, same for the NAS drives and raid, my main desktop goes off every day, but one i have for converting dvds to avi stays on all the time. Never had a problem doing that, the server is unix based and hasn't been turned off for about 4 1/2 years.

I would leave it on during the day and turn it off every night. Its good to let your computer cool down every night, but then if you keep turning it on it will just get worn down until it crashes on you. You will get much more life out of it if you just turn it off once your done using it for the day.

I leave mine on all day, turning it off at night to cool down. Can you not put it into hibernate or standby during those times you are not using it? It's much better for it to do it that way than turning it on and off so many times.
