The Ancient Egyptians used a variety of different types of plants, insects, herbs, minerals to enhance color properties for all kinds of paint...they also used natural mud and clay deposits to give richer color to paints. Eggshells and spices were used for facial paint along with certain insects too....scarab beetles etc...in some regions even animal secretions were used too!!

The Egyptian in the past were very smart, in your other answers that you have received the people talk about using plants, wines, but they also used grounded stones, they crushed the stones into fine powders, they mixed the stones that they were going to use with honey. They used their paint for many things, like powdered malachite for eye shadow to enhance great visionary powers. They also painted amulets with powdered stones and honey. The also used it to paint the pictures on the walls of tomb's, because it did not wear off well.
