i'm against all beauty contests, because their main focus is looks and the common interpretation of outer beauty. it teaches young children that they have to look a certain way to be popular and famous, rather than be good, moral, people, even if it means not looking perfect or being best dressed. i was out of the beauty pageant circuit, and i remember being taught that what's on the inside is what really counts, yet today, in the same town with just about the same kids, just about everyone cares (even just a bit) about what they look like. it's near impossible to imagine what these child beauty pageant kids think of their looks as they age and go through middle and high school.

I am against Child Beauty contests. They give the child the wrong priorities in life. Little children are all beautiful, and their attention would be better spend playing and learning the three R's.

Well, I don't like them for the same reasons that others said(although I disagree that all children are beautiful - that's just a plain lie). I've worked with children models for major clothing catalogs and the kids were either bored to death (didn't want to be there) or really obnoxious because they thought they were something super important.
Most of the time the moms would have me pressed against a wall interrogating me for information on how to get "little Jessica" in television commercials, fashion magazines, on soup cans, etc. It was really irritating. These parents were living out their own fantasies through these kids.
I imagine beauty pageants are the same way.

I am against child beauty contests. Children are not fully developed, they don't make judgement calls on their own, & they're still learning about themselves. Introducing them into a culture that will only value them as long as they look & act a certain way, is cruel & unusual. It is also too much stress & pressure with the competition. How are they supposed to express themselves & develop into individuals if they're constantly pressure into meeting the status quo?

Against. There's nothing worse than 5 year olds wearing 3 inch heels and lipliner--on an everyday basis. Child beauty contests make me sick.

After seeing little miss sunshine im still kind of against.
If the child (like Olive) really wants to do it and the Parents have little involvement i think it's fine. But parents who airbrush and makeup their kids for these things to the fullest extent have an altered veiw of beauty

Personally I feel that a girl who is 8-12 or younger has no real say in what she likes to partake in. The parents do!! I don't think that any of these children should look like teen queens or grown-ups. What about all the pedifiles out there, the thought of it grosses me out. The parents are either living through the child or exploiting them. Shame, shame, shame

I think its wrong. Theres really no point to beauty pageants anyway if you really think about it. If I had a daughter I wouldnt allow her to be in them though because for one, it makes the child like a zombie (even older ladies in pageants are like zombies, I wouldnt want my child to lose their ''sense of self'') and two, young girls don't need to be wearing make-up and/or putting too much value on ''beauty'' thats where people go wrong now days.

Exploiting children like that is very sick. How can they measure beauty in a child when they haven't even developed yet? I think parents who expose their children to these pagents should have their children taken away. The whole entire world knows that pedaphiles are the only ones truely interested in those pagents. I think there is enough abuse done to children and this shouldn't be added to it. Thank you and GOD bless.
