Hey,

I live a little south of Los Angeles in California.

January 25th marks my half birthday (July 25th is real bday)

I will be 15 and a half.

What do I have to do to get a driving learners permit?

thanks,

-kev

You can go to the California DMV website and read the drivers permit book, or pick one up from your local DMV (sounds like you are near the Long Beach DMV on Willow).
Make sure you read it carefully and all the way though, the actually ask questions from the entire book (even about insurance, accidents etc).
Then make an appointment online to sit your test (you need to make an appointment before you go now).
You will get 3 tries to pass before you need to pay again (it is about $20).

btw there is no 15 3/4 rule for doing driving classes.. thats just a myth.. go start classes asap before the new driving laws start up.. unless its too late.. most people like doing them at 15 3/4 so when its time to take the permit test they are all brushed up on their "vocab" and after they get their permit they can sign up for driving classes and be in-and-out. what people dont understand is how EASY a permit test is.. if you know what a stop sign is for then your all set (and yes that was a question on mine >.<) i got the book they give you in those driving classes on my way to the RMV and just skimmed through it and looked at the "important" or technical stuff and i got a 15/16 on my permit test. I know what your thinking... hes prolly smart and can retain all that info.. i cant do that.. Uh.. yea.. no. Im 17, i get C's/D's .. going to a community college.. i have ADD (not ADHD!! lol) .. and yea.. if i can do it any1 can. im not THAT stupid tho.. i just enjoy working and stuff rather then listening to a bunch of overly open-minded liberal jerks. dang that sounded nerdy, now i dont feel like a total moron again =D

First of all, I hope you have studied for the written part of the test. If not you can obtain a copy at your local DMV or you may be able to print it on line. When you are ready, You will need an adult with a valid drivers license to go with you to the DMV, tell them you are there to take the written part of the test. If you pass you get your learners permit, which allows you to drive a vehicle with an adult who has a valid Drivers License, if you do not pass, you have two more tries at it.

i lives in Illinois so the process may be a little different. but first you have to take driver education in school and the teacher will have you fill out the necessary paper work

I think your parent has to take you to DMV to get it. You'll need ID and/or birth certificate. Get the handbook and study first.
