why does my cd player keep stop spinning the cd?

i have to press pause and the play for it to spin again.

Is it just one particular CD? Or does it stop all of them?
If it's all of them I'd expect there to be something wrong with the player, either that or there's some sort of debris in the mechanics.

If it's just one CD you got problems with, you probably got a faulty disc :)

Check the batteries...
