Personally, that is my favorite music. Some people don't like it cause they say it is too sad, but I have heard some mighty upbeat country music.

I think that some people hate country music because a lot of country song lyrics are whiny ("oh woe is me, my wife done left me, my dog ran away, and my truck don't run no more") and the singing is too twangy. I don't hate country music, though it is not my favorite. I like the old country or alt-country much better than the new pop-country.

Most of my friends point to four factors: Steel Guitar, Fiddle, Banjo, and the Twang in the voices.
The Twang seems to be the most frequent target.
Lyrically, country songs tend to focus on the emotions surrounding situations many people simply don't identify with, so there's little incentive to listen to it.
Personally, I like country, but the songwriting quality has dipped recently.

I am not sure....I think it may have something to do with the stigma of actually liking country music or being from the south. Someone I know says that it "produces inbreeders".

I have no problem with country music. I actually DO enjoy listening to it. It is better to hear something more simplistic every once and a while in this hectic world.

I like the classic stuff. Cash, Haggard, Hank,....etc. The new stuff blows. The subject matter of most new country music is lame and pointless and sung with less talent than I would care to say. Well, there are a couple of good songs out there, but nothing to make me want to switch my radio onto a country music station for more than 2 minutes.

"Twang" is the "County" or the "South" you hear in the voices. When Meryl Haggard and Johnny Cash had it, it sounded outlawish. It had a rebel feel to it. When Kenny Chesney or any of these other abercrombie cowboys use it, it sounds borderline retaded. Especially since they are from the suburbs.

Maybe it's slower and they want a fast paced beat to pump up their day. I personally like it and lots of other kinds of music as well. Have a great day!

because so many of the country songs present a sad story. and most people feel music of any kind should be happy and upbeat.
