I have had, at one time, views that would be considered racist.
I grew up going to affluent private schools, but chose to go to transfer to an inner city, largely black high school. I did this because I was idealistic and wanted to get away from the elitism in exchange for an idealistic community of mixed races. Yet it was not long after I arrived at the other school that I was treated very differently and hustled because I was "white." I stood up for myself, which generally made the animosity worse. Some started to respect my independence and left me alone, even thought I was cool. Others still wanted a piece of me. But it was the general attitude of the school that started to make me have racist ideas. The sense of victimization and entitlement grew to cartoonish proportions and I got an idea of what "some" black people think of whites. The school did not care much for academic success, but rewarded students more for being able to articulate various complaints and social critiques. I think this is some perverse view of empowerment. I left that school to go back to my private school. Sense then, I have lived in several other cities and gone to mixed race churches, so I no longer harbor these specific views. But I still take everything with a grain of salt. Race issues are complex.

I surely hope so.
I know I turned someone who was racist into a non-racist, we're really cool now.
And when I was like 6 I had a lot of white friends... and one day a new girl didn't want to play with me because I was African American. She called me dirty and she yelled at me not to touch her or her stuff. I cried because it was the first racist experience I had, I didn't even know what race or racist was then. The teacher called her mom (the teacher was African American). And they got into an argument. The mother came to the school and yelled at the teacher I remember she said, "That's how I raised my daughter, all black people are ignorant pigs!"... After that I never saw the little girl again. And I had a strange feeling about the rest of my white friends... I guess you can say I was racist for a little while, but I got over in a week or so, my friend Heather was awesome. :)
Now my view is: If Ignorance is a race... then I am racist.

Be a nicely Samaritan....and so on....and so on... whilst all of this could likely sound corny, there's no distinctive reason and no better meaning. genuine, you should nonetheless be 'depressed', you have bonding issues, subjects with have confidence.....ought to be you're only now no longer socially delicate. It occurs. Even at that 'doing nicely on the planet' is a call for of being a mind-blowing individual. The Jews have a personalized of doing a 'mitzvah'.....a nicely deed so secret even God does not comprehend. Do the deed, walk away and you'd be waiting to locate your self grinnin'. After awhile 'doing nicely' turns right into a project and having a 'project' promises life meaning. Corny? obtainable! Goofy? For confident! The meaning of life? Yes of course. This is so with any belief!!! Why not?
Famous ones?
1) Malcom X. Read his biography when he gets to his Mecca experience.
2) H.P. Lovecraft. It is said, his racist views meloded out with time
3) Family members in the occasional mixed marriage after the children came. Very common, people start open mind. True also in cross cast marriages in India.
Racism depends on experience and we learn from experience. Still some people have views pretty ingrained.

Yes I was a hate filled person because being raised close to white neighbors gave me a up close experiences on how they felt toward us. When I say they, I mean the majority of whites I encountered. I realized my mother did not share my hate for a race that most likely treated her worse coming from Mississippi. The young are not in pressed because they dint see equality, but over my 32 years I have seen a major gap filled with white black relations. Life is to short for me to be filled with anger, but like I said, THE YOUNG ARE NOT IN PRESSED>

Excellent question! I don't know if I was racist, but I have always been careful when it came to Caucasians. I always felt as if they were always waiting on me to "prove" myself to them. Being the Black woman that I am I just simply couldn't stomach the always being watched and that made me leary of them. As I got older (and wiser) I let go of alot of wasting time thinking about what are they thinking about and let go. Time, life, getting to know a diverse group of people, not only Caucasians, makes my life much fuller and brighter. I am still leary sometimes of people who are not like me, but I am a work in progress. God ain't done with me yet!

I don't think you can change your racist ways unless you hang out with the group that your racist toward...then your views may change.

My husband could never stand Spanish people. We finally worked it down to he doesn't like it when they come to his business and can't speak enough English to tell him what they want. His shop finally hired a bilingual person to translate and he's ok with everything now.
