When my comp starts up the Windows start up tune plays (so my speakers work & are plugged in properly etc) but after that there is no sound with anything.- (MP3's, CD's, Yahoo, alerts, etc, etc) Anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get it to work again? If it's relevant, I have "Creative" volume system. Nothing is on "mute".
Thanks in advance as this is driving me mad!

open control panal / sounds and audio devices
check to see if mute is ticked (untick it )click on advanced in that area check others are not muted ( done )
right click my computer / properties / hardware / device manager
check for any "(?)" with yellow or green background, if there is under sound ,video, game controlers, reinstall your sound and video drivers that came with you pc

Since the windows start up sound plays, its kind of odd.....my only suggestion is check the internal volumes on all of the programs youre trying to play sounds on. Also, double click your speaker in the bottom right and try turning up all of the volumes(primarily wave)....

Lastly, this might be complex since i dont have creative, but with my sound I had to select 2channel speakers because 8channel was selected in my audio driver settings and the sound quality improved when i switched to 2channel(seeing as i only have 2 channel speakers)....well try that

I have had the same problem. You just need to go to a local computer store (CompUSA, Circuit City, Micro Center, etc), buy a new sound card, and, if you think you can do it, put it into your computer tower. It shouldn't be too difficult, just as long as you can follow simple instructions. If you don't think you can do it, then call a professional over to do it for you

Hope that helps!
