Where should I go to do that? is there a step by step process? does it differ by state?

It depends on what kind of legal business structure you have already. Are you an LLC, C corp, S corp? If an LLC, do you have partners or members? etc. etc. Most of the time adding someone as a partner is a matter of refiling a few pieces of paper with the Secretary of State (in your State obviously). It's not a big deal at all.

That's a big leap of faith. Are you sure you want to be in business with a family member?

This could cause major problems in the relationship if something goes wrong. Personally, I wouldn't put the relationship at risk.

I would hire my brother before I would make him a partner.
