Have a look on task manager see if msmgr.exe is running
If it is stop it running just highlight it and end program.
Windows messenger opens your computer to spam and malware when it's running.
Hope this works for you and if it does you can disable it by going to C:/Program Files find a folder called Messenger and rename it to MessengerOFF this will disable windows messenger on start up (to rename Messenger i must be stopped first)

Good luck

Try looking in the 'Task Manager' (Ctrl-Alt-Del) in either Applications or Processes.
