With nations like China and Japan? Yeah right.
India's economy is growing, but when you start comparing it to China, you forget its even there. India is growing, but not as a superpower.
I'm an indian, living in the U.S, by the way.

Well, there are two factors to be considered when using the term 'superpower'-

1) Economic Growth- India's economy has grown by 8% or more for the last 3 consecutive years-second to China's 10-11%. With an economic growth index of such astonishing results cannot be ignored. India has become one of the leaders in global sciences and technology. Outsourcing from establishments such as the United States allows their economy to boom and prosper from foreign markets-and in a domestic prospective as well.

2) Militarization- India has nuclear capabilities. They have the manpower with a general population in the billions to create a substantial military. When considering a 'superpower status', one cannot have a legitimate standing without considering this vital factor.

With consideration to those factors, acquiring superpower classification is most definitely possible. However, not by 2011. With competition within the global markets, such as China's economic growth-India is most certainly a runner up for superpower status-eventually. It takes more than 4 years in any growth period to reach such a large classification. Ultimately, in agreement with chelsea, China is well on its way to being the next one, but yet by 2011? It is still questionable.

What's wrong with all the indian people in the answers ?

They over estimate their dirty country, it takes more than millions of poor citizens to make a super power.

Just because you are many it doesn't mean that you are great.

By 2020 for sure--they have the manpower, are getting the technology, and are building their economy. It won't be long.
