If you have SKY or SKY+ then press the help button on your remote control and you can select subtitles on or off (if available). Be warned, they aren't transparent so are more intrusive than the version on analogue television.

I note your question is in TiVO and DVRs. Are you asking if you can record subtitles?

In the US it is mandatory for all TVs to support Closed-captions.
So, if a channel transmits them you shoul dbe able to get them.
