I have a bicornuate uterus, meaning it's heart shaped and I can only carry in 1/2 my uterus... so far everything is ok, and they just give me an ultrasound every few weeks to make sure all is still well. I have a good chance of having a breech baby meaning I would need a c-section. =(

My question is, for planning a c-section, do doctors normally schedule it, or do they wait up until the last minute and go for it? If they do schedule it, how far along are you about when they will know for sure if you need one or not? Just curious. 25 weeks along now... I have an appt Friday and will be asking them then...

Thanks for any info.

I have had 3 c-sections. Two were planned and they do schedule them. I was a repeat c-section with my second and they scheduled it at about 32 weeks. With my 3rd, they scheduled it at 37 weeks and I had the c-section a week later. They should know for sure by about 35 weeks or so. Hope that I helped!!! Good luck!!!

C sections aren't covered by insurance if there is no reason for it. So in this case, if you don't absolutely need it, your OB may wait until the last minute. If there is a danger to you and your baby to let you carry on and go to labor on your own, chances are, the c-section will be scheduled up to 2 weeks before your due date. At 38 weeks, your baby is considered full term... any delivery before this time is considered premature.

My doctor suspected that I would have a big baby 2 weeks before my due date and even then, there was no talk of scheduling a c-section. I went into labor on my own, and pushed for 3 hours. Only then, did my doctor and I decided that yes, it was time for a c-section.

Having a breech baby is also a reason for c-section. If you are within a week of your delivery and your baby is still breech, your doctor may go ahead and schedule a c-section. But then again, babies can flip flop around up to the day of labor though.

I had the exact same thing. My little girl was breech and they did a c-section at 39 weeks. This is usually what they do. They don't want to let you go til you go into labor because they don't want the baby to drop into the pelvis, because its harder to get the baby out and most doctors won't deliver a breech baby vaginally. By the way my little girl is 11 weeks now and doing great. Don't worry everything will go good.

They can schedule it as early as your first appt. It is up to you. My doctor suggested that if I decided to opt for a c-section (my first baby was breech so I had a c-section the first time), he would schedule it for a week prior to my due date. I am not sure why, as I didn't bother asking him, because I'd like to try for a vaginal birth, but that is what he told me. Best of luck to you.

I had a scheduled c-section with my twins. We just scheduled it and I walked into the HSP. My Dr thought it was stupid to put me through labor if there wasn't any chance of me delivering on my own.
I am pregnant again and we are scheduling it for Jan 19 or 26.......unless I go into labor before that on my own.

Many docs will want to schedule it as that's obviously more convenient for them.

Talk to your caregiver about the possibility of waiting until you go into labor and then having the c/s. Then you know that baby is really ready to be born.

your doctor will plan everything if he or she decides its what you need just ask your doctor about it. many women with your problem can deliver vaginally with little to no problem
