can a contract 3 sim work in any phone?

will i be able to buy any or certain types of phones to put my 3 contract sim into and still have it work?

No. All 3 Sims MUST use a 3G phone. If you want to know why please read on...

3 only have 3G masts so when you are in a 2G service area and are using 2G masts, 3 has to pay extra to the 2G service provider that you are using, be it Orange, O2 or T-mobile.

If you were to use a 2G phone with a 3 sim, everytime you use the phone 3 would have to pay another company for EVERY call. For this reason, their Sims are programmed only to work in 3G phones that are theirs or are unlocked. Other phone service providers do not have the same restrictions because they own their 2G masts and dont pay overheads if their 3G customer use their own 2G masts.
