I just bought SIMS 2 and am having a tough time figuring it out. I did follow the tutorial, but it spends more time on stuff I know and not specifically what I am trying to figure out.
For example, I created a family and now I want the husband and wife to lay in bed to rest and sleep. Unfortunately, after putting one to bed successfully, the other stands next to the bed complaining.
Can anyone please tell me if they can sleep in the same bed?

Well, first of all, you can't get two Sims in a one-person bed, but that's probably not your problem. Did you set your husband and wife to be spouses? I think there's a "family relationships" button somewhere on the main "create a family" screen. Click that, and drag one spouse onto the other and choose "spouse". If you have any children, do the same, clicking "parent" or "child". There's also a "sibling" option, I think.
(Edit!) Right, right. If you already have a family created and you want to use that one, do some social interactions to get their relationship up, and make sure one's a romantic interaction so they fall in love (red hearts over both Sims, not just pink). Then just get them engaged, then married, and you can have all the babies you want. I don't know the exact requirements for just getting them in the same bed, but simply having a decently high relationship with no love should be enough. (/edit)

They will only SLEEP in the same bed if they are friends or better. 2 sims will LAY in the same bed if you tell one sim to "relax" and then invite (or join) another sim. I've found doing this speeds up the process of becoming friends with someone but it can cost you other friends if they get jealous as well it can upset the sim you live with (and want to sleep in the same bed).

yeah you have to make them fall in love with each other first...might take a while though so heres a trick...go into the neightborhood area and open up the cheat box by ctrl+shift+c at the same time..the type ' bool prop testingcheatsenabled true ' then go back into the house and then go to there relationaship bars and move both sims 2 bar all the way up so they'll both like each other and it should work

there could be a wall to close to the bed or an object such as a lamp or night stand.
Do they like each other realation ship wise? At the beginning did you put them as husband and wife on the family tree? That could be the problem.

you need to make them fall in LoOOOVE
or make them have a better relationship
keep making them kiss and everything
buy a jacuzzi or maybe you have the wrong bed
you need to buy the love bed!

you have to get a king sized bed for them and im pretty sure that would work but if it doesnt then you should try to make their relationship go higher.

as long as they have the smiley face status of friendship or better (the heart) they will share any double bed
