The advice of the above people are good, but one thing. If it is a severe case of worms, you don't want to give the horse too much wormer at one time. If you do, then there is a potential for the horse to die. For severe worms, you should contact your vet, but what we have done with horses we have encountered like that is give the horse half or a little under what you'd normally give him for about a week. That way he has a chance to poop the dead worms out.

If your horse has worms you will know when you clean out the stall. Look for little white maggots. Also, the horse will continually loose weight no matter how much you feed it because the worms are eating whatever it eats. Don't use two different dewormers in the same day, and don't overdose on any given day. Instead of giving a 1000 lb. horse a 1,500 lb. dosage, give a 1000 lb. dosage twice a week. You can alternate the types of dewormer you use, but I would not use two in one day. It has been proven that worms in a horses body are becomming immune to different types of wormer, so switching your wormer is a good idea.

some human beings get ordinary ivermectin, and others spend the money on the manufacturers. i do no longer likely have a call. it is important nonetheless that your horses the two are on a rotational deworming schedule or a on an familiar basis dewormer. till now this 3 hundred and sixty 5 days i bought a %. of dewormers that grew to become into distinctive drugs and varieties. it is set for the full 3 hundred and sixty 5 days, plus a card to tell you which ones month and which wormer to apply. It has helped me plenty i won't inform you extra. I have been given my uncomplicated set at Valley Vet for the two my horses. they have a top rate set besides for roughly $10 extra. it is as much as you general nonetheless, it is your horse.

yes you can use both, but its probably best to just use a dewormer with both in it. I love zimectrin gold, it has both ivermectin and pyrantel. I've used it on a rescue horse I got that had worms just crawling out of her. I gave her a dose of that and then again a week later and she was fine. If your horse has alot of worms you can give it more than its weight amount (ex. if your horse is 1000 lbs give it the 1100 pound dose) If you read the box it says you can give your horse up to 7x the recomended dose with out any bad affects. Have fun deworming your horse!

No, you shouldn't. However, you can rotate dewormers, for example, I think ivermectin is like a 6 or four month rotation, well, instead of doing ivermectin every 6/4 months, do ivermectin, then 4 months later do pyrantel, then ivermectin, etc.
That's what I do. :)

They are only suppose to be wormed ONCE a month. If your horse does have worms, one should be good enough.
But I don't know those types of wormer. Do both of them treat a different type of worm? If they do then you are going to want to talk to your vet. But, if they treat the same type of worm or they both treat all worms, then it's not safe to use both of them. Worm your horse, wait for a month, then worm him again.
If you're still concerned then call your vet.
Good Luck!

You need to wait, you should also clean up the manure everyday, or at least 3 times a week. for about 4 months to break the life cycles of the worms.
Tips for internal parasite control
Don't feed on the ground.
Pile manure before spreading.
Deworm periodically.
Control flies.
Clip pastures.

Dewormer is a poison, for killing parasites. Overdosing only poisons your horse. As our horse are stalled, we worm monthly. We follow recommendations from our vet to kill seasonal parasites.
Panacur makes a " Panacur Blast" that is to be given daily for a week.. Have your vet do a fecal exam to determine the type of parasites you are dealing with, then use a dewormer specific to those parasites.

I would personally wait myself......if you're unsure of their worming history, they are later than their worming programme allows or you think they may have a more severe infestation, such as grazing with many different horses etc I would worm them with the panacur 5 day guard, and then continue a programme following that.
