No, in fact you shouldn't.
Norton Internet Security should have all you need: an anti-virus, a firewall and an anti-spyware. Windows Defender is just an anti-spyware. And if you have multiple programs of the above categories, both the Norton program and Defender will conflict. The other Norton components and the conflicting will appear to run but may run into problems. If you really want to run Defender, see if you can go into Norton's settings and disable its anti-spyware.

a coulple thins to know. I havent tried every version of every security product. but I have tried most of them.

Currently I have yet to see Norton ( or any other company primarily known for its anti virus) make a product that 'thorougly'
protects and removes spyware/adware as well as a program that is specifically geared for such a purpose.

Now I tried Msoft's beta antispyware product but havent tested the defender regular release. I wasnt very impressed with the msoft anti spyware beta product.

One of the common issues people run into when they start installing security products is , I often see people who do not have enough ram in their computer to run a bit security product and do what they want to do...
then their computer gets slow and they assume its spyware or a virus and they install even more security products and completely choke their system.

Nothin wrong with a good antivirus product and a good anti spyware product.
As far as anti spyware, spysweeper, spybot, adaware se, xcleaner and trendmicros anti spyware are all good products that ive used.

It´s not a good idea to have two or more programs that do the same thing so probably the best thing to do is to keep only Norton.

MS Defender has caused me a lot of probems and it finally hanged saying that it cannot download updates.

norton is 'bloatware': top heavy, resource hog, and 'hooks' the kernel (the heart of windows). get 'avg' or my choice 'avast': both free.
defender has caused problems on my 4 pc's so i don't mess with it... many freeware app's do just as well. (why give billy gates more power?) go to 'snapfiles.com/freeware' and look over their offerings under 'security'. a most trustworthy (spongeworthy?) site for downloads.

If your Norton Security also scans for spyware, no...it would be best not to if this is case anyway because they will conflict with each other.
