it's an island off the coast of new york that contains multiple cities.
on it's western end, it has queens and kings counties, which, respectfully, are the boroughs of queens and brooklyn.

It's a section of New York, although there is a place called Long Island City in either the Queens or Brooklyn.

No, its not a city. its an island in New York. (yes, part/section of new york) New York or New York City mainly consists of five boroughs w/c are brooklyn, bronx, staten island, queens and manhattan. The west end of Long Island are the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. but if youre talking about long island being "urbanized"... yes, the town is very urbanized to the fact that you can call it a city if its just not on an island.

On the other hand, if youre thinking about Long Island City in New York which basically is around queens closer to manhattan. that town is not a city, it was just derived from the name itself. that town actually is a place where you find all big factories, abandoned area etc. and such. but the place is growing with new buildings, dont get me wrong. hope you find your answers!

It's simply a part of New York, or a section as you stated. It is divided into two counties, Suffolk and Nassau. Long Island is about 110 miles long, with Suffolk county being the larger of the two. Nassau county, closer to NYC, is more congested and city-like, while Suffolk county is more rural and contains the Hamptons and Montauk Point (all the way out on the east end). Long Island contains thousands of cities within it.

Its a LONG ISLAND off the coast of New York. Its has different counties [Suffolk, Nassau]] Hence the name, LONG island. Its part of NEw York State, not the city [unless you count Queens]

Long Island is part of NY state
it really has nothing to do with the City of NY
Queens is technically part of long island and queens is technically part of NY city

confused?
