Wow, I'm appalled by the poor response here...

Yes, condoms can prevent STDs!

A good quality LATEX condom can prevent transmission of chlamydia, gonorrhea, HIV and Hepatitis B. And yes, they can prevent pregnancy, too.

The problem is, condoms aren't perfect. They fail about 15% of the time because people don't apply them correctly, break because the user didn't add lube, slip off during penetration, or because the guy said, "Oh come on, baby, I'll just slip it in for a second, then I'll put it on."

When used CORRECTLY, a condom's effectiveness is almost 100%. Occasionally, a condom might slip or break even if used carefully. Nothing is foolproof. Abstaining is the best way to avoid STDs, except that a lot of people fail at abstaining.

The hitch is, condoms can't cover ALL of the genitals. Herpes, HPV and syphilis are spread through skin contact. No penetration, no fluids required. Because the condom can't cover all of the crotch, there is still enough skin contact during sex that these STDs can still be spread.

Still, using a condom is WAY better than not using one. They still do offer some proection, but hey, nothing is perfect exceot perfect abstinence.

They are 97% effective only. The most condoms can do if try to prevent infection i.e STD's and most unwanted pregnancies. It is really up to us to be careful about who we have sex with and for them to use preventive measure themselves. Which mean basically, Don't sleep around. :-)

Condums can work to prevent pregnacy and STD's. However they do break if not used properly, are outdated, or just break. A pin hole can mean a life time of child support.

if worn correctly and consistently, statistics have proven that condoms DO prevent: unwanted pregnancies and the spread of infectious diseases. always practice safe sex.
DON'T PUT IT IN WITHOUT FIRST PUTTING IT ON.

Yes, if you use them properly. Some men don't.

I've never had anyone tell me they broke one, although I suppose that does happen.

Do you mean that it works to prevent pregnancy or STDs? The answer is yes to both.

Yeah, millions are used every day. Best safeguard other than no sex at all to prevent pregnancy and avoid STDs.

It helps but still not a 100% effective. Better than nothing.

condoms are a waste of men's money... birth control is the woman's responsibility...her body... her choice... that's what they tell us when they have an abortion... so then it goes the same for birth control too.. so stick it in and let 'em fly boys!
